TCU wont let Patterson go. We would have to be north of $6.5M, most likely even higher, for even consideration.
If Patterson is our # 1 and I believe he stays at TCU then we will end up with another underwhelming hire.
What was Bald Bikers wife talking about?
Yup back to reality. Patterson aint leaving TCU and both Gruden and C. Kelly are more plausible options. Gruden may not come here and I can live with it but Gruden would have a Carroll/USC and Saban/Alabama type of impact for UT. C. Kelly would be the next closest and its a distant 2nd. I would put Patterson 3rd in the impact list. Ironically, Patterson would be the toughest pull though.
Are you laughing out loud because you can only come up with one pass that may or may not be better than the only pass thrown by our slot receiver
LOTS of $$$ in Fort Worth.
Not happening. Proven winner at a fairly high level. However, even he has had some challenging years but they stuck with him.
What are you talking about? What game were you watching? His passes weren't off like that. His pocket presence wasn't good which is to be expected right now. But he was much more competent and "ready" than the starter.
Coach has to take the reigns off. The last pass was better than anything Dormady has thrown. WR has to make that catch with the game on the line.
Guy who has been a VQ member for 10 years with 0 posts until tonight just dropped this bit of info:
People are already speculating that it's actually Hubbs on a burner account. Wouldn't be surprised. Writing style is somewhat similar and it seems like something Hubbs would be privy to.
TCU is a private Christian School with a stadium that seats maybe half of what Neyland does. Not saying your wrong about the $$$ and such, but TCU is not to be confused with the Univeristy of Texas or even Texas A&M.
Gary Patterson has been the head coach at TCU since 2000. Hes turned down plenty of job offers, because he knows where he fits and where he doesnt. Along the way, hes taken TCU through four conferences, now in the Big 12, and a top-five finish this year.
At the AFCA Convention in Louisville last week, Patterson spoke to an assembly of coaches on various topics, including changing jobs, and why some changes arent successful.
A lot of times, I watch guys take jobs, not just in football, but you watch a CEO of a company, Patterson said. Hes highly successful, and they pay him a lot of stock options. Then he changes to a very well-known job opportunity, and you see him fail. Youre asking yourself, Why?
Its about that fit, and Patterson reflected on a conversation with a school interested in hiring him.
I remember talking to a person, two times, from a Big Ten school about coming to that place and being the head coach, Patterson said. I told him, Im not from there. Youve already made the mistake of hiring somebody from outside your region. Im not that person. Am I a good football coach? Did I watch your school play on TV since I was six years old? Yes. Heres the problem we all have: We go for the money, we go to be a coordinator or head coach, but do we fit? Do we fit that university? If youre not a good fit, if you dont catch on, if youre not like their constituent group, you dont fit there.
Im a beer drinker, but theyre wine drinkers. Its not going to work. I dont care what offense you run. I dont care what defense you run. I dont care how good of a coach you are. Youve got to understand and look past money, past facilities, past the way it looked on TV. Just like I looked at it at TCU, I knew I was only going to get one chance.
And yet according to reports TCU's spending for football is $35m while our spending on football is only $28m.
Their stadium is 50k, the student population is 10k, and their athletic dept revenue is $92m. TCU football earns a profit of $19m per year which is used to subsidize other sports programs on campus.
Patterson has been at TCU since he was 37 years old and head coach since he was 39. He's 57 now. He's taken the team from the WAC, to CUSA, to the MWC, and now for the past 6 years to the Big 12. When the new polls come out this week he'll be ranked #5 in the nation. In 2015 he won the Big 12 conference title and earned $5.1m that year including his bonues. He also signed another contract extension at the end of that year that runs through 2022. With 5 years left on his contract he'll be 62 years old.
I would not say it is impossible to get him to come to Tennessee but I'm almost certain it will take a whole lot of beer, maybe an entire brewery.
This article is from January 2015, before the Big 12 title.
Gary Patterson: 'I don't care what you run; do you fit?'
Just a random observation...
Barring Trey Smith, overall every OL butch has recruited since he has been here has been very poor. We almost never dominate the line of scrimmage even agaisnt MUCH worse teams. No push, ever.
I think it's a combination of scheme, coaching, and projects we recruit.
Its gonna be a Frost/Brohm type hire. Maybe we can get Mullen if he really does want out of Starkville.
The good thing is that all the names well see pursued are better coaches than Butch.
