Give me your Top 3 canidates...

1 Chip Kelly - AD should be in process behind the scenes with him NOW. With proper vetting and a real commitment to win championships, this is the grandslam hire.
2 Chris Petersen - Not going happen, 0% chance but I'd still call.
3 Gary Patterson - Possible, but not probable.

Pipe dream hires:

Gary Patterson

David Shaw

Bobby Petrino

Justin Fuente

Realistic hires:

Brent Venables

Neal Brown

Tee Martin

Here's mine...

1) Jon Gruden
2) Chip Kelly
3) Jim Bob Cooter

Pipe dream hires

Chip Kelly(only one I can think of not named Stoops/Gruden)

Top 3 realistic candidates(for me) IMO

1)Les Miles-I think he should at least get a call, LSU puller the trigger on him way to early IMO

2)Bobby Petrino-AD probably won’t entertain him but I’d buy him a Harley and co-ed if it meant winning.

3)Mike Leach-Guy is crazier than a pet coon but I’d take him in a heart beat, he can coach and he’s not out to make friends, he’s out to win football games, if he can beat you by 60 he’s going to do it. We need that mentality here.

3b)Jim Bob Cooter-Risky here being that he’s never been a head coach, but with his reputation in the league I think it could work out well, fan base is going to want that splash hire though. Not sure this would excite the fans but it might.

No particular order on those, those are just where I would start

HC Jim Bob Cooter..the perfect name for a Tennessee coach.

Glad to see Venables getting some shout outs. I think he is the best candidate clearly. I could live with Kelly for sure, but NCAA issues, however large or small, are scary. Mullen would be a great hire, imo. Franklin would be good, but he wouldn't leave PSU now. No other candidate gets me excited...

3. Chip Kelly

Out of the list, the most probable replacement would be Justin Fuente. Don't really like him, but James Franklin would do well here. But I'm sure his contract & buyout are steep.

Shaw at Stanford does not get near the athletes there which he would and could pull at UT. One of the things his teams all have no matter talent is toughness. Those guys play good football year in and year out under Shaw. Throw money at him until he shows up. I think he gives Saban a run for his money in short order.

Realistic candidates:

Norvell
Durkin
Brohm
Brown

not in any particular order..

I'm not going to list options that are not realistic for this program...

If these are the most realistic options, we might as well just stick with Butch.

Brohm is a MUCH better X's and O'x coach than Jones. It isn't close. He has good recruiting contacts in UT's target recruiting areas. He played and coached under Petrino but doesn't come with the baggage.

Brown would be a huge risk... OTOH... he does have a win against an SEC West team.

Norvell is probably a bigger risk... but it is hard to be a bigger risk than a coach who has pretty much demonstrated he can't get it done. With that guy... there's pretty much a 100% probability of your program going down hill.

Durkin is a risk as well but he has some of the right influences in his background.

FWIW... I think this list by LWSVOL is more of a reflection of a lack of confidence in the decision makers than anything else. Brohm is the exception in that group IMO. The others are possible up and comers with resumes no better than Jones and Dooley when they were hired.

There are virtually NO serious options that are guaranteed to have more risks than keeping Jones barring some miracle epiphany over the next 7 games.
