Result of constant negativity.

Yes, the program all week heard it. No one in Tennessee is talking about anything else. "They suck", "He's gone" "Fire Him now", "4-8", etc

When surrounded by negativity, you will get subpar performance. Corporations spend millions each yr for positive, teambuliding, engagement of their employees. Results show positive influenced people outperform those in a negative, toxic environment. I've been in toxic environments before but I couldn't imagine being in one near as bad as this football program has endured the past week.

The play of the players or coaching of the coaches wasn't the most embarrassing thing about the game today. It was the apathy of the "fans" who quit on this team this week and today. JMO

Negativity is a first amendment right.

BS. I played at the D1 level. The outlook of the fans meant nothing. It was me, my teammates and my fight against the guy lined up across from me. When the game started, I didn't give the fans a thought. Hell I didn't even know they were there.

Totally agree. I've been in this situation before at work - not this bad - but bad enough. The spiral continued until someone high enough up the chain - said enough is enough and told folks to shut up.

I just don't get why a fan of a team wants to pound on the team they support like this.

One way for a coach to shut up negativity is to go out and dominate a game.

See, now you're putting undue and unreasonable pressure on the coach. The chart wants what the chart wants.

Amen and amen!

100% truth....

Then make the change NOW and give the fans some hope!!! The positivity will come from the prospect of better days. Ask your "executive" friends about that.

All you care about is YOURSELF! As a fan you should care about the players ... the team ... NOT yourself. It is and should not be about the FANS. It should be about the team.

Fans spread hope to the players by supporting them when they need it most - not by walking away when adversity hits.

Then fine - don't go to the game. The players don't want you there.

No reason for any fan of any team to go to a football game or watch on TV anymore. Let's just remove all the games from air. Let's the games play and then they can tell us all how it went later.

That said - if you don't think WORDS said don't play a part on someone's confidence - I don't know what to tell you. Because they do.

Actually is isn't.

Yes it is.... Recruits and players dont read these boards and don't listen to fans.

Sure they hear the 100K+ fans cheering over the band when they run through the T but after that if they are playing they are locked in and dont hear the fans.

The fact that you do not understand this dictates that you didn't play the game at a high level. Hell high school football players will tell you that after they enter the field for the first snap, they dont hear the "fans". They are focused on one thing - playing and trying to win the damn game.

And if a recruit or player gets mad over a chat board well then he needs to develop some thicker skin......

According to Butch we are just the outside noise but interestingly the damn head coach cant block out the "noise" because he is too damn busy writing down names so he can "prove them wrong".. He hasnt proved anyone wrong and that list is getting longer.

He should spend more time coaching and less time keeping his damn list.....

In Jones tenure, it has not been about the team, it has always been about him.

I think it does effect them. Knowing if they mess up the coach could be fired and when all they hear from the loud mouth fans is you can't win with this mediocre coach. Barely any fans were left in the stadium in the 4th quarter. I feel bad for the team. They need to try and block out the negativity and try and execute their plays.

You're not true fans! A true fan, like me, cares only about the players ... Shame on you for being such terrible fans. It is and should not have anything to do with the FANS. It should only be about the team, team, TEAM!

True fans, like me, spread hope to the players by supporting them when they need it most - not by walking away when adversity hits, If you were only better fans, like me, the team would play better, the coaches would coach better and we would win, win , WIN!

This is how your post reads to me.

Butch Jones is a victim of caring way too much what fans are saying on a day to day basis.

Butch Jones is a victim of believing the lie that you can be anything you want to be if you work hard enough.

Butch Jones is not a victim of fan negativity.

but lets be sure to fire a coach every five years

Let's take away the context of the mess Dooley left, and the horrible state of the SECe these past years, and focus on meeting expectations.

If the goal is to play for and win championships, and the coach finishes year 5 and has yet meet that expectations, when is it safe to assume that he is not going to be able to meet those expectations?

For those who say it is always about CBJ - well here is the who that always makes it about CBJ.

I thought we were talking about the players and how negativity impacts them.

It's all your fault. Holding you accountable

If the players had a coach who could ignore fan negativity, like a grown up, then they could follow his lead and learn an important life lesson.

Actually no - I stayed until the last second on Saturday and cheered as loud as I could.

Though based on the former D1 player on here - I should have left since my support was useless.

Edited to add: I guess that thing about the Neyland effect is just a myth and the timeouts and false starts the noise can cause is just my imagination.
