Dan Mullen thread (merged)

Mullen. lol.

The same folks campaigning for him would be making a list of his replacements tonight.

So which is it? He can’t win bc they’re in the SEC West? Or bc he can’t recruit?

It’s much easier to recruit to Georgia over Miss. state.

Hell after today’s debacle, the fact that Mullen develops The talent he gets should be enough to hire him.

Once again, there’s a reason why Starkville is never a destination recruiting target over Athens, Gainesville, T-loosa, Auburn, Baton Rouge, Knoxville, and College Station.

Give him two top 10 classes and two top 15 classes and he’s 10 wins better than what we have now. He will never get those type of classes at MSU because it’s never been done. Even in the best 9-10 year run in program history which is happening now.

Well, I give you credit for sticking to your guns. He’s had every opportunity to recruit well to Starksville.

Also... after a 5-7 season Butch pulled a top 10 recruiting class.

After a 10-2, program defining season, Mullen couldn’t crack the top 30.

Who’s that on?

Butch sold immediate playing time to kids And since Tennessee sells itself, it’s a perfect combo for a top 5 class. Mullen can’t sell “come and wait two years to play” as his starting 22 are mostly upperclassmen because he gets the leftovers of Bama LSU Georgia Auburn and DEVELOPS them. Also, Miss State doesn’t sell itself like UT.

I’m not gonna change my mind on the guy because he’s getting boat raced by UGA.

UGA has 2 plays that resulted in Touchdowns because the same Safety fell asleep.

I’d still take him in a heartbeat because his offense with Todd Grantham’s defense with 4/5 stars would be deadly here. Hell Grantham’s DC days at Georgia speaks for itself. When the guy has talent on defense, he’s deadly. Same thing for Mullen’s offense.

Tonight only adds to the numbers.... and more justification to suggest he’d never be more successful here than Butch. 9-4 max.

Agree to disagree. Give a guy better talent and weaker competition and he will improve. That’s common sense.

They're looking pretty DAT gum good today. Brave of you to throw that out there, when it wasn't really needed.

It's why we play the game Behr. We could go 5-7 or 10-2. Nobody knows untill it plays out. No reason to moan untill then.

Nobodys right at this point.

Nobodys wrong at this point.

He’s not a good recruiter, so there’s nothing to suggest he’d have better talent. Don’t pull the “UT sells itself” either because the Dooley years taught us, that simply isn’t true anymore.

And how’s it weaker competition if he’d be playing the same east team that’s steam rolling him now?

It will be interesting to bump this thread after we have losses to both GA and LSU.

Worst part about all of this, for me anyway. I'm not sold on thinking we lose to them both. We probably should, but who the F knows? We could beat both then lose to Mizz and SMU.

It really is frustrating. But I know you know that.

Dooley averaged #13 ranked classes in his time here. And he basically did everything to not recruit.

And once again, he wouldn’t be playing UGA, Bama, Florida and others with a roster made up of a majority of 3 stars.

He would have a roster with majority of 4/5 stars. Hence, better talent against weaker competition. Trading Auburn, LSU, and A&M for Vandy, South Carolina, and Mizzou is a swap of tougher competition for weaker competition.
