I just wonder who the options would be for a replacement. I have faith in Currie but I'm concerned with the administration above him. If we're gonna fire Jones we just cannot replace him with another up and comer that we roll the dice on.

I'm not worried about that. I think the idea that we won't spend is slightly overblown. I know we didn't want to spend big to get Charlie Strong but from what I understand we paid what he wanted and Tom Jurich at UL came in with a better offer. It is what it is.

We paid pretty well to get Rick Barnes and that has been the last major hire.

Yeah I think I'm with you on that. I mean they're paying Jones over 4 and a half million so why would they not pay that to pull a proven guy. But I also struggle to think of who those "proven guys" would be.

And unfortunately is a pipe dream. Why? Because as you say, the administration won't spend the money (although we have plenty of it) on a big name hire.

Booster money could change that. I think Currie values boosters more than Hart. Hart wanted zero booster influence, still wanted there money.

Let's look at the positives: Oline looked solid/good, RB's are legit and there may not be a drop off at all there. TE's are pretty good, Ethan Wolf broke a Witten record yesterday. Defense as a whole looked improved. There's still a lot of football to play

MacIntyre, Gundy or Mullen, I think.

I'm not convinced someone like Tee Martin or Brent Venables wouldn't have higher ceilings but it would be a tougher sell.

Yep! Live on the sunny side. We only get to watch our team 12 or so times a year so might as well flush the negatives quickly and focus on the postives so that you can actually enjoy those games.

I tell you what if nothing else Tennessee football has been highly entertaining must see TV these last few years (for better or worse)!

I'd take the first three you mentioned over Butch easily. Martin and Venables are intriguing to me. I've been on the Venables wagon for a little while now. He would likely recruit at a high level and assemble a top staff.

I remember somebody saying that Hart basically ignored the boosters during the last search and thought for some reason that he could pull Jimbo Fisher. I think Currie would handle a football coaching search a lot better than Hart did.

Devil's Advocate: McIntyre just had a Title IX issue at Colorado. Don't know that they will take that chance. We tried for Gundy before, and I seriously doubt he leaves his alma mater when he doesn't have to play an SEC schedule. I will be interested to see if anything comes up with the NCAA and MSU. It could be sour grapes, but I had an Ole Miss person tell me that MSU has some exposure after Leo Lewis testified last week.

I am in Memphis, and Mike Norvell is growing on me. Young and a great recruiter. Needs to bring a high level DC.

Some people would rather see the Vols fail so they can say I told you so

Mullen wouldn't come here anyways lol. He has it made at MSU. He could go 7-5 every year and he would never be fired

I do to. Believe it or not the boosters had the money for Gruden and Hart and Cheek got cold feet. Those two were a big reason it was difficult to attract coaches in any sport, Imo.

Poster on VQ posted a couple screenshots, looks like a handful of our '18 commits (Lyn J, Gerald, Lawless, Harris, Martinez, etc) just started following Bob Stoops on twitter or he started following them? Not sure how it works on the twitter. It's happening...

I'd like Mullen or Gundy. Mac is a good coach but I'm not so sure it's a great fit. Tee or JBC I'd be willing to roll the dice on as coordinators, but not really anyone else at this point.

InVol do you think the boosters would make a go after a big name again if it is true about the Gruden interest last time? Because if not now, then when? I read so many times that the boosters had it almost done and Hart didn't allow it- he wanted to control the search and get his guy. So there was truth to that?
