Wait, ties are calculated as half wins? That's ridiculous. They should be removed from the denominator. I don't know if that has a positive or negative effect on the winning percentage, but I don't like the methodology.

But Alabama's winning percentage would equate to 9.3 wins over a 13 game season. I'm not saying that that's not a statistically significant improvement over ours, but at the end of the day, it would average out to a 9-4 record as well. I wonder if there are as many posts on their boards looking to denigrate their place in history. No, wait, they just gave themselves another national championship. Maybe we should concede one of ours in response.

This. Basically no program should expect to win 10 games a year using all time percentages.

We should be in the 9-11 range majority of time.

I think an 8-4 regular season should generally be the minimum for UT, given our scheduling pattern lately. We usually play 3 OOC patsies, and play USC, Vandy, Kentucky and Missouri every year. Frankly, that should be 7 wins nearly every year. Assuming we win at least one toss up (and that assumes the 4th OOC opponent is of the quality it has been lately, as well as the other SECW opponent) that's 8 wins. If you don't win a toss up, and/or you lose one of the 7, it's likely not going to be a good year. There are always going to be outliers, like when Missouri was good, but I think that will be the exception going forward.

I don't think it's a controversial statement to say that the two lowest points in UT history were the Battle and Dooley years. Those eras, in conjunction with the seasons digging out from them, really sunk our winning percentages. Butch has done an excellent job getting UT back to its baseline- probably better than Majors, given the circumstances.

It's a dumb argument that makes it appear like having expectations of being one of the upper tier college football programs is unrealistic. Just not right.

I think this is right if you believe in cycles. There should be a few years at the peak of a cycle where you're in that terrain but it's not going to last - at least it hasn't historically. We're on the upswing from a down cycle and the question is where is our peak going to be and how long will it last? Perhaps a more timely and relevant question might be how long should be given to see if progress toward a peak continues?

Seriously? It's not like I'm making fun of a storm decimating people, their homes, etc. Just something for our game tomorrow is all it is. I thought it was cool, so I shared. I'm guessing it's not PC?

I think I saw one of these first in 99, and maybe again in 2005ish. I don't recall it being an issue then.

Record it. Some %^&*ing idiot has scheduled their child's birthday party tomorrow from 3:00-5:00, and I'm taking my son to it. So, I'll begin watching the game around 5:30-6:00. Nice part is no commercials or halftime!

I have never in my life been successful trying this. I always have to look and see.

Whether that expectation is realistic or unrealistic is a matter of opinion.

What's not a matter of opinion, historically speaking, is that if you are a long-term fan of Tennessee football and you are going to be miserable if we don't win 10 or more games per year, you might want to find something else to do with your time, because you are going to be miserable a LOT...not that any of us has gotten that vibe from you or anything.

Oh, I do it all the time (disclaimer...I don't live in Tennessee...if I did, I bet it would be much more difficult).

I'm telling you, fast forward through commercials and halftime...it's the life!
