Butch says our D-line has "always" lined up a yard back. Is immediately proven wrong

Butch does all this to himself with his stupid remarks. He probably had no ideal the DL was even doing it. Now that he has been called out on it , he will be hell bent on to keep doing it because he will never admit he made a mistake.

If we figured out this is a bunch of garbage, then every one of our opponents figured it out also.

He's likely pre-occupied with getting this team on track and considers the media a distraction and they aren't exactly doing him any favors this year. He could be experimenting against ISU but with GT I think it was toward injuries. A lot of coaches want the press around as little as possible it appears these days. In the end it's the teams final record that matters anyway.

I don't think they changed anything from GT to ISU. Short week. Same scheme we run against GT that we never use.

He gets asked a dumba$$ question he gives them a dumba$$ answer and they just eat it up on here.

I enjoy the meltdowns over nothing. Lol

Nah, he smiled and went on a tangent that had nothing to do with answering the actual question. What he should have said is "it's none of your damn business, next question"....

Only Satan can do that and get away with it. Rest of 'em have an image to project and protect....feel me?

Over nothing? We couldn't stop a nosebleed and on 2nd and 1 we're lined up a yard off the ball. Not to mention giving up 3,000 yards from UK 2016 thru GT 2017. There are a lot of "dumb a** questions" that need to be asked.

IF we lose to UF(which Lord willing we won't), but if we do, will you still believe this is a meltdown over nothing? Just curious?

I honestly don't know why any sane human being would want to be the head coach at Tennessee with the constant barrage of **** you have to take from a slew of miserable wretches no matter what you do, good or bad. And then they expect to be kowtowed to, like they're the important ones, not the team or the people who actually support the team.

There's a difference between supporting the team(which I do) and supporting the coach(which I'm seriously starting to waver on). Many posters think everyone needs to be a Butch fan to be a Vol fan. Not true. If you don't believe Butch is the best coach for the players, then supporting the team means hoping for a better coach. I'm not quite at that point, but I'm getting closer. I'm still hoping he turns it around atm.

Why do you think everyone who voices concern and worry for the Vols is melting down?

That last pic in the article made me sick. I just can't wrap my head around why they wanna play that far off of the ball. Butch really is being dumb as hell.

The played that far off the ball vs Georgia Tech to combat the cut blocks. It worked for a few drives until Tech adjusted. If you notice after the first few drives, Tech wasn't really doing much in the way of chop blocking(at least, no where near their usual amount). It stayed the same vs ISU because we can beat ISU playing people 5 yards off the line of scrimmage, and they had all of 3 days to prep the team for the game, if even that, with the Tech game being played on Monday.

Jones has no reason to tell this media or this fan base jack **** about his gameplans, he's never done it, and he's never going to. Quit listening to his press conferences, because outside of injury updates(and hell he barely gives those), there's nothing to learn there. You would think going in to his 5th season you guys would have learned to stop paying attention to his press conferences by now, but when you read the average post on here I guess you realize the average IQ of the poster is closer to 0 than 100, so maybe that is expecting too much.

This truly is fake news.

Butch never said anything about last year.

The dude who wrote this internet blog completely misunderstood, and is now dragging most of the people in this thread along with him in his stupidity.

Here is, verbatim, the question asked and what Butch actually said in response (you'll notice he never mentions, or even alludes to, last year):

"Coach I think a lot of people thought that the defensive line was lining up off the ball against Georgia Tech because of the cut blocking, and then people saw it again Saturday. Without giving away your game plan against Florida, I guess, is there an explanation on that, and, you know..."

"No, I think...*smiling*...I think, uh, everybody's looking for it now, you know, we're always a yard off the line of scrimmage, or a hand behind the ball, with all that--not quite a yard, but you know, that's something we continue to talk about and grow and develop. But again, we've seen some non-traditional offenses in the first two games, and you know that amount of communication required last week, our players learned a lot about the need to communicate and talk, and..."

Already discussed this in the thread about the press conference (Butch Press Conference today -- Mon, 11 Sep). All you had to do was look there before posting, OP, and you'd have known this is a red herring.

Even my wife noticed how far back they were lining up. One wild guess would be, would it be more difficult for Florida to track closing times (assuming they do this) to adjust their plays to our speed? I don't know, but, it sure seemed to give our opponents an extra two or three yards progress.
