Tee would be a great hire IMO. Tennessee guy, elite recruiter, and a great OC. If he could bring in a good defensive coordinator (maybe Kevin Steele) then I think he could take us to the next level

Still not sure about the OC part. Clay Helton was their QB coach and OC before being promoted. Do we know who calls the plays?

For the love of all that is holy, can the next person who thinks about typing "who could we get to coach Tennessee?" at least wait until we have an actual reason to talk about a coaching search.

TIA.

We are TENNESSEE and Butch Jones was hired to coach our football team. You best believe there are consequences for failure. No one says it's easy; We've done it only 7 times in my fandom lifetime, but that's the job. You know something else. Sometimes that happens when you least expect it. Like maybe now. So fixed the damn defense and get it done. #GBO

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the high expectations and I'm glad our program has them. To further explain my perspective, I'm all for expecting to win the East every year. But even with the best coach in America, we aren't actually going to win it every year. And one of the primary reasons we won't is the natural ebb and flow of rosters turning over. We had the team to win the East last year and we didn't get it done. I'm not 100% sold that was all on CBJ - I think injuries played a huge role. So for that reason I'm willing to give him another shot. This year for any coach would be the rebuilding year since we lost so much. So while I think we should compete for the East, I won't be surprised if we don't win it. But we are playing a lot of young guys that will be back next year with a top 10 recruiting class. So next year there will be absolutely no excuse and I think all Vol fans would agree with that.

Anyway - these conversations of coaching changes are incredibly premature given that we're 2-0 heading into Florida week. Let's give the boys a chance to prove themselves on the field.

I cannot figure out why in the world we are talking about getting a new head coach after going to 2-0 to start the season, an outstanding upcoming 2018 recruiting class, and having gone 17-4 over the last 21 games. This is crazy to me. We haven't been as dominating as we might like in the first two games but we won. I just don't get it.

If Tennessee loses to Florida on Saturday get ready. It'll be ugly.

Florida hired defensive coordinator Will Muschamp followed by Jim McElwain. Georgia just hired a coordinator. South Carolina just hired Will Muschamp who had been fired. LSU just hired a fired head coach who has an NCAA bullseye on his back.

That should give you guys an idea about hiring big name, elite (or whatever term you wanna use) coaches.

Coaching search talk while we are 2-0 and it is Florida week. How miserable can we get?

I'm standing by my earlier statement. As long as Saban is rolling, no top coach in the country is going to sign up to coach a team that has to go through him twice every year. No smart up and comer would sign up for that either. Roll with Butch as long as he keeps the program in a good spot, gets us to Atlanta every so often, and has us in 2nd place when we don't go to Atlanta. We probably won't get anyone better than that while Saban is at Bama.

THe only coach that should be feeling the pressure on Saturday is Bob Shoop. This game isn't anywhere close to a must win for Butch. Shoop however needs to deliver the goods

This ^^^^

I know I was mad that we didn't get the young guys more playing time Saturday (still am) and probably went a little overboard with my criticism of that but my goodness. Lets see what we put on the field the next few weeks. We HAVE talent, just need it all to come together.

I think that's a fair point. I do think there is some coach out there with enough confidence to take on Saban though. Honestly, if a coach comes here and doesn't beat Bama, oh well, not many have. No one will think less of you if you are still doing well outside of those games. If you do beat Saban and prove you can take him down from time to time then you now will be praised/paid for it. Could you imagine the media love for a coach that comes into the SEC and beats Saban twice in one year? That coach is getting moved into the elite category quickly. High risk/reward scenario for a coach with enough confidence that wants to come.

Now, all of that doesn't matter either because Butch about win the East this year.
