We already tried a loud mouth NFL reject with an oversized ego.

We could just rehire him, I'm pretty sure he will be available soon. :eek:lol:

Could also give Michigan a few years to get wise that they are over paying for the 3rd best coach in their division and show Harbaugh the door.

I'd say him and Urban are right up there together. I mean Harbaugh was a top 5 coach in the NFL. Wasn't like he wasn't good enough up there and they sent his rear end packing.

32-21 Butch Jones (1st 53 games as UT HC)
3-0 in bowls

32-21 Dabo Swinney (1st 53 games as CU HC)
1-3 in bowls

Dabo finished his 5th year 11-2 and a win in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. Remember Clemsoning? Weren't they the butt of the media's jokes? Would y'all consider them elite now?

Can y'all be patient?
Didn't 1-2 of his first 5 teams win their conference though? I know it's apples to oranges since they didn't have to play a Bama every season, but what he did at the time was at least the equivalent of if we'd gotten a trip to Atlanta or two thrown in to Butch's record but $#!+ the bed in bowl games.

Edit: in 2009 they won their division (but lost OOC games to TCU, Maryland, and USCe). They lost twice to conference Champion GT (lol) but won their bowl against UK. In 2011 they won the ACC, but lost to GT again, NCSU, USCe, and got de-gotdang-molished by WVU in the bowl game.

UT record vs. ranked opponents:

2008-2014: 2-33
2015-2016: 5-4

Last season's winning record of 3-2 against ranked opponents was the first time we've achieved this feat since 2004. Fact: we're better than we've been in over a decade.

First full 3 years were 9-5, 6-7, 10-4. Lost ACC championship in '09 to GT. Won '11 ACC championship against VT.

So basically:

1st year: 8-4 (1-1 ACC Champsionship and bowl game)
2nd year: Uglybad
Enter Chad Morris
3rd year: 9-3 (1-1 ACC CHampioship and demolished by WVU)
Enter Brent Venables
4th year: 10-2 (No trip to ATL, win against LSU in bowl game 1-0)
5th year: 10-2 (1-0 win vs Urban Meyer and OSU)

Looking at this, it makes me hope like all hell that Shoop can get things turned around and be our Brent Venables lol

I still can't get someone, even Butch's biggest fans, to say that when he was hired 5 seasons of 5-7, 6-6, 8-4, 8-4, 8-4 would have been acceptable. If we don't win the East this year it is obvious we never will with him. Georgia's not going anywhere, South Carolina is going to be a serious problem and Florida won't deal with an underperforming coach.

Those bowl games count in our record just like all the other games we play each season. We're 5-7, 7-6, 9-4, 9-4 since CBJ has been here. I don't know what our record will be for his 5th season but so far we're 2-0 for the 2017 season!

I'm being 100% genuine when asking this. Who is a (realistic) better replacement on the market? What coach out there could we get to replace would be an obvious improvement. Florida and Georgia could only pull McElwain and Smart with the same amount or program prestige (or whatever you'd like to call it) and better recruiting home states.

You forgot with a more rational fan base and a media market that doesn't rail on them every chance they get.

🤔 found this interesting. ever since Texas AM last year... wow

My point with that chart was to show that we always do very well against FCS teams with respect to total yards allowed. I was just trying to be a prick to the guys who were celebrating the amazing performance of our defense on Saturday. :)

Spot on. 2015 we looked elite. We we as good or better than Bama and Okalahoma for 3.5 quarters.

What the **** happened in the 2016 off season?

Shoop.

So both catbone and thebreakerboy quit watching the gator game just one year ago?
In case y'all both forgot, Tennessee dominated both defensively and offensively that 2nd half...

Not sure why I am posting, the buthurt is strong with these two.

:hi:

That's what I was thinking. What was it, 11 total yards from the start of the half until the 7 minute mark in the 4th? Something like 5 straight 3 and outs plus an INT. We had a couple couple sacks too. That's the last time the defense has dominated though. Hopefully we see it again soon

If you want to be a fan of an "Elite Team" now you have choices:

1. Take off the Orange and put on the crimson. Everybody knows someone like that.

2. Become a Vandy fan that considers getting to a bowl game elite.

If we made a move, it would likely be to a G5 guy. I don't really see us hiring a guy from another P5 school, not that that's necessarily a bad thing.

I think there are a lot of great G5 coaches out there right now though. IDK who it will be, but I'd be willing to bet one of the next great CFB coaches is currently building his resume in G5. IDK if the timing will be right for us to hit on the next big guy to come out of G5 though.

Coaches who seem to be poised to make jumps to P5 over the next 1-3 years:

Scott Satersfield: App State (though admittedly a harder pull because he coaches at his Alma Mater)
Scott Frost: UCF (likely needs another year or two)
Frank Wilson: UTSA (he needs a lot of time to cut his teeth, IMO, but dude is already a MONSTER recruiter with in roads to LA and got UTSA to their first ever bowl game his first year as HC)
Mike Norvell: Memphis (likely needs to show more over the next year or two)
Chad Morris: SMU (Destined for aTm job, IMO)

And the same things could be said about Butch before we hired him. His resume looked great as G5 coach. As I said, if Butch continues to win 8-9, then I'm willing to continue rolling with him and hope he can figure it out, unless the brass 100% has a proven P5 HC already locked up.

Here's another thought about our coaching staff...we have one of, if not, the best special team units in the country...that takes coaching! It seems Butch can develop guys really well to play special teams, but why does that type of coaching seem to not happen in other areas? Do we spend too much time in practice on special teams work? I don't know the answer...just throwing it out there.

I'm pretty much here. I might be willing to trade Butch for the right G5 coach if I thought he was out there. There are some promising guys there now, but I'm not sure the timing is right to snag the right one.

Unless we end up looking something like 6-6 this year and/or have ugly losses to teams like Vandy, I'm good to roll with Butch. Not sure how I feel about Shoop, at this point, though.

Definitely not sure how I feel about Shoop. We will know a lot more over the next few weeks, so I'll wait until that point. I know one thing, this trash DB play of playing 10 yards off LOS and bailing when the ball is snapped is horrible. I thought Warren worked on press coverage with them a ton in spring and fall camps. Disappointed tremendously with that unit the most.

Psssh...throw theses facts out of the window...we are still a joke! Can't believe anyone would bring legitimate black and white stats to this discussion. The nerve...
