Response to question: Could the Tennessee game be effected next week?

35 is asking a lot of this offense in the Swamp. Ball security is critical.

True. I see our D causing multiple turnovers that might include a scoop and score or a pick 6. And maybe another KO or punt return for a score.

Turnovers will definitely be the most important factor in the game and being able to stop the run, by both teams.

Doug Matthews still seems high on Kongbo, FWIW.

Kongbo got upfield quick and made some of our biggest hits during the game. I'm talking some soul crushing hits.

I don't really understand the whole "slow" thing. He didn't get in on the million jet sweeps that got ran on us, but that was partially because of misdirection keeping him inside and partially because you look for your LBs to take care of it anyways.

Special teams need to come up huge. We should have the clear advantage there especially if their suspensions hold.

Here's my thoughts vs Indians State

1) QD and JG were both a bit shaky. QD had a few nice throws and also had a few bad reads (That INT was awful) JG has the higher ceiling but QD is probably more ready to start.

2) Our RB stable is very solid. Kelly is a beast. Very pleased with Jordan and Chandler. CFA had a great game as well. Gillespie is our best coach.

3) Our WRs are young and pretty talented. Without JJ, Byrd and Smith, some guys like Palmer, Johnson and JUCO George stepped up nicely.

4) The OL was decent enough, though they did allow hits on our QB a few too many times. Specifically the tackle spots needs to tighten up quick before FL and GA.

5) Trevor Daniel is the best punter in the SEC, and possibly the NCAA. He's a weapon.

6) The DL besides Tuttle is simply not good at all. I dread playing LSU and UGAs running attack. The edge in particular are getting abused.

7) Kongbo and Martin should not be starting and are liabilities. Phillips and Johnson were MUCH better at DE and I'm sure one of our freshman CBs is better than Martin.

Guys I'm really starting to think of Shoop as Butch's Sal Sunseri.

This is a really good summary from yesterday.
I would add in that Phillips is a gamer and needs more playing time. I found myself almost wishing Kongbo along during runs for him to find another gear and he simply doesn't have one.
I told you guys Ignont was athletic and quick for his size- he needs to get on the field.
Right now QD is the better option and did some good things yesterday, but someone has got to fix his staring down the WRs or SEC teams will feast. He overthrew 3-4 passes that would have been TDs... we will need those in the games coming up.
I don't know if Shoop is sandbagging/going vanilla as some have said leading into SEC play, but I sure hope so. I liked seeing Tuttle knock the rust off and I think Taylor probably had a game hangover from Monday, so I am not counting him out.
At times, Jumper looked smart and took good angles... then he would look lost and slow the entire next series... very erratic play.
I liked seeing some of our secondary turn their heads and track a bit, but we are still giving way too much cushion
RBs are the highlight of the team right now, along with our younger WRs making plays and stepping up, Palmer is going to be good. He reminds me of Robert Meachem...
Oline is just average.
Dline is just average.

Lastly-- I am not being sarcastic when I ask-- can someone tell me why it seems any team in the country can just line up and run a jet sweep/any sweep around the end and get a minimum of 5-6yds every play? Are we not set up correctly? Are we just slow? I watched games last week and all yesterday and closely watched how other teams would cut that off at the line of scrimmage. Are our DBs not able to get off blocks?

In not in my 60s. Maybe youtube a math video or something.

I'm in my late 20s. You claimed experience playing and watching football going back since "30 years before was born."

So either you were playing loose with facts to make a weak point sound better or you walked out of the womb ready to break down film and strap up on Saturday lol

Guess I was giving you the benefit of the doubt and should've known better.

Encouraging to hear. I need to rewatch the ISU game again.

I am at a 3.

Shoop will be fine.

He hasn't even dialed up a blitz yet.

He did just enough to get through two crazy offenses. This schedule was nuts.

He is going to be ready for UF.

Jave36 mentioned this---

Since the FL investigation/suspensions are supposedly in the hands of the Admin and not donkey since it's a criminal investigation, wouldn't ya'll think that the suspensions would have to be upheld since they were labeled as "indefinitely" and it's only been a week since Mich? I mean, if this week goes by and we still play Saturday and magically all those players are back, that would be a whole nother level of shadiness that I would think couldn't be overlooked by the national media?

So let's say your 27, and you started playing football at 6 the age that I did. That takes us back 21 years ago. 21 years ago I was 31. I also used the word "about". 31 years ago I had 28 years of football experience. That puts me in my mid 50s.

I've always wanted a stalker. :hi:

Don't have an exact answer for Gtech, I would guess a combination of not being too prepared for the sweep and then being gassed once they broke it out caused that abortion of a game.

Versus Indiana State, the jet sweeps were oftentimes set up by tons of motion, misdirection, and unconventional sets. These things were basically done to get guys just out of position enough to give the less athletic Indiana State players a chance of getting the edge that get some yards. Even with that though, they only got 215 yards total for the game. 122 of those yards came on the ground where they only had a 3.2 ypr average. This is being blown out of proportions quite a bit IMO.

lol everybody knows your emoji game is on point butcha. Be careful though, apparently your football opinions don't count unless you're 65+ years old 😂😂😂

I just don't think bringing up games Dobbs struggled (and I always said inconsistency was Dobbs' biggest flaw) doesn't really have any more bearing on what we've seen from our two QBs thus far.

Did Dobbs suck on that basis tho? I judged him as a success...flaws and all. Got a young man two games into his career that has a final verdict stamped on his case file. Remember the narrative at the end of Dobbs first season. Somewhere betwixt "why can't Butch recruit SEC caliber QBs" and "Riley Ferguson is clearly superior" (still in play because of Memphis). :loco: Buncha can't wait to be rights on this board. Check the omniscience at the door and let facts happen, people. Fatalistic doom gets noisy and I did a Narcos 3 binge last night. The Cali Cartel comes across a lot more sympathetic after reading a VN game thread. :thud:
