When Jumper ends the Ga Tech, assuming he starts...

if you believe what the coaches say, yes. last week there was an article where it was speculated very heavily that for this game, we'll see a lot of nickel, and Gaulden will play a big role....

they need to be able to set the edge, so it makes sense to get some speed at the OLB spots, with some good tacklers. then trust the DT's, and the LB's to play their gap assignment, and make tackles.

it was "wait and see" before DK went down. so from that standpoint, nothing's really changed

I noticed that in most of the games I watched of GT from '16 the opponents stacked their LB's or a S over a LB. Kind of weird looking. They seemed to try to mirror the FB and QB. The up LB had primary responsibility for stuffing the dive while the guy behind him spied the QB.

As with anything else, it comes down to execution and the people executing it.

FWIW, one of the games I watched was UNC. They played "bend don't break" after getting an early lead. They gave up 374 rush yards but only 20 points. Warren was on that staff.

Only 3 teams held them under 5 ypc- Boston College in the first game, Clemson, and Miami (4.94 ypc). BC doesn't help since you'd assume some first game issues. Clemson doesn't help much unless you have that caliber of personnel. Miami may be a game to watch since UT's personnel should be similar in talent.

Bottom line is that Jumper better be physically better than he was last year if UT is going to depend on him. If not... get Bituli and Ignont ready to play and find someone out of that Sam group who can add depth. This could be a role for McDowell considering his experience.

yeah, that's kind of the key. i don't think anyone should go in to this and not expect to give up yards on the ground...it's what they do.

the key is red zone, and when you have those 3rd and longs....make 'em punt when you can, and keep 'em out of the endzone.

i was going to be shocked before DK went down if we held them to a 4ish ypc average.

win field position, win 1st down, and see what happens.

and on offense, it's ok to keep it away from them and keep our defense off the field.

i think we'll see all 4 of those guys, a lot, on Monday.

The only criticism I have of Jumper is his lack of violence when he tackles. Too many bounce off his hits but I support the young man playing. Maybe his aggression can be elevated.

Is there a more polarizing player than Colton Jumper? He really gets the debate going

Jumper represents the change that has happened in CFB over the past 10-15 years. It use to be that good players would slip under the recruiting radar, or coaches would hide them from other schools and rating services. Also the development of high school players for college wasn't anywhere close to what we have now. Talent and physical abilities were important, but not at the level they are today.

My assumption is the older fans remember walk ons working like heck and turning into good players through their hard work. But the game has changed and the tools top programs need to succeed can't be learned from a coach or earned in a weight room. Jumper can line up in the perfect position but he can't stop a stronger/faster player from going around or through him most of the time.

During a UF LSU game Tebow was going in to score and their MLB met him at the 1 and stood him up. Announcers pointed out that MLB could bench over 400 lbs. If Jumper was in that position would he have been able to stop Tebow or have just been run over?

don't know his measurables...but i don't think he's got the largest wingspan...harder to wrap up for a t rex.:eek:lol:

Y'all remember this? I am a Jumper fan. He's got heart and hustle.

Jumper is a Battle-era type of player that could get on the field just because he could fog a mirror-- UNSAT!

I will be happy if he isn't being dragged 5 yds downfield every tackle he makes and doesn't wave at RB's as they run by him in the hole.

I believe Jumper will play well against Tech seems to be the type game where he would play well. When the team passes a lot is where he is vulnerable.

This thread has went full retard.

Holy sh*t, we get it. Some of ya'll don't like Jumper and don't want him to play. I've never seen a particular player receive so much criticism just because he doesn't have the talent like most of our other players do.

He's hasn't even played this season yet and he's already being doubted. I hope he balls out this year so he can give all the doubters the big middle finger.

Sometimes heart can overcome talent. That's one thing Jumper does have is heart. He could be improved for all we know so he deserves a fair shot at the MLB position. If the coaches trust him, then so do I.

True fans don't throw shade at their own players just because they ain't "talented" enough. That's stupid.
This! I may knock CBJ every once in a while but I wont knock a player, who gives 110% every game,
just because he doesn't have the same speed/ability as the next guy. All he can do is try to get better and he is doing that

My thinking is that none of out MLB's are really that good. Maybe the young ones will get us where we need to be. Kirkland has been injury prone and seldom gets close to double digit tackles. Jumper plays hard he just doesn't have the athleticism to be great. Neither of these guys is going to remind anyone of some of the greats we've had there in the past. Most of the great ones make over 10 tackles a game.

Why don't you go cheer for some other team.
