if you believe what the coaches say, yes. last week there was an article where it was speculated very heavily that for this game, we'll see a lot of nickel, and Gaulden will play a big role....
they need to be able to set the edge, so it makes sense to get some speed at the OLB spots, with some good tacklers. then trust the DT's, and the LB's to play their gap assignment, and make tackles.
it was "wait and see" before DK went down. so from that standpoint, nothing's really changed
I noticed that in most of the games I watched of GT from '16 the opponents stacked their LB's or a S over a LB. Kind of weird looking. They seemed to try to mirror the FB and QB. The up LB had primary responsibility for stuffing the dive while the guy behind him spied the QB.
As with anything else, it comes down to execution and the people executing it.
FWIW, one of the games I watched was UNC. They played "bend don't break" after getting an early lead. They gave up 374 rush yards but only 20 points. Warren was on that staff.
Only 3 teams held them under 5 ypc- Boston College in the first game, Clemson, and Miami (4.94 ypc). BC doesn't help since you'd assume some first game issues. Clemson doesn't help much unless you have that caliber of personnel. Miami may be a game to watch since UT's personnel should be similar in talent.
