And OP....based on the obvious grammatical errors in both subject line and text...whatever it is you're drinking, have one for me. It must be some good stuff. :lolabove:

Jumper will be fine. Highly doubt we look back at him as a reason we lose, if we lose.

Definitely would like DK back for Florida. Big and athletic is Jumper kryptonite.

Except Georgia last year? Jumper had 6 solo tackles, and .5 TFL against Georgia last year.

Why do you keep talking solo tackles? The OP says 11 tackles not 11 solo tackles, I guess one could say you're the Colton Jumper of reading comprehension...

I think Jumper will play very well against Tech, has played well in big games before. This type of offense should play to Jumpers strengths. I know he is a hard worker and I bet he is no doubt stronger, sure he isn't the fastest but against Tech that may be a blessing. Often times plays are overran by more athletic types facing this offense. Assignments and taking good angles is very important against option teams. He played very good against UF and Georgia last year, he seemed to tire down the stretch of the season last year, but hopefully at some point either Kirkland comes back or Bituli continues to share more of the load. Sure it hurts to lose Kirkland for any amount of time but this is a team game. If everyone plays to their abilities and does their jobs our defense will be just fine. Everyone acts like players cannot improve from one year to the next, get stronger from one year to the next. Yes we still need players like Bituli and Ignont to step and contribute, I think they will. Bottom line we can't dwell on last years injuries and last years defensive struggles. The coaches and players are looking forward and that is what everyone needs to do. Get behind the Vols or go home. I am optimistic that we are gonna have a great season. GBO!!!!!

Jumper should perform well against Georgia tech. He's pretty good at stopping the run, but he struggles in pass coverage. Tech should be the perfect opponent for him to shine.

I hate seeing the nation bashing a player, and I seem to remember Jumper making some big stops in critical situations last year. Let's quit all this stuff and cheer the young man on.

GO VOLS!!!!!

Look. With our D-line last year, there was no linebacker that currently plays in the SEC that could play well.

Those two position groups are entirely co-dependent.

The fact that our inside D-line was a ruptured pipeline of running yards, a MLB can only do so much to help that.

So anyone right now saying in definite terms that one LB is so much better than another.....is pissing into the wind until we see a Dline that can plug their lanes and get internal pressure.

Unfortunately Colton Jumper has never managed 11 solo tackles in a game, and only had 4 TFL during the entire 2016 season; the likelihood of him accomplishing 11 solo with 2 for loss against GT is pretty low.

What was the likelihood of us losing to SC and Vandy last year? What was the likelihood that Clemson would blank OSU in a playoff game?

Its a brand new season. Anything can happen. He has a legit chance to hit those marks if he does indeed start.

Jumper not a bad run stuffer on inside runs. Should be good on the fullback dives which is the first option on Ga Tech's offense.

Exactly. Unless he's improved a lot and I'm talking exponential improvement, we'll see this young man constantly blown out of the middle field, more often than not by the GT fullback. When he's not taken completely out of the way, you'll see him stretching with reaching hands as the RB runs by him. He's a good player, does his best, gives his all, Shoop says he's smart so I'll cosign that. He just does not have the talent to be an every down MLB in the SEC. Expect any time GT needs a 3rd down conversion to run it right at Jumper, it will be money for them.

This thread has went full retard.

Holy sh*t, we get it. Some of ya'll don't like Jumper and don't want him to play. I've never seen a particular player receive so much criticism just because he doesn't have the talent like most of our other players do.

He's hasn't even played this season yet and he's already being doubted. I hope he balls out this year so he can give all the doubters the big middle finger.

Sometimes heart can overcome talent. That's one thing Jumper does have is heart. He could be improved for all we know so he deserves a fair shot at the MLB position. If the coaches trust him, then so do I.

True fans don't throw shade at their own players just because they ain't "talented" enough. That's stupid.

Smart, aware, gets everyone in position. Strong, all up and disruptive in the line. Fantastic angles. His angles are so good people think he's not moveing much. Incredible tackler. He is a clinic on how to wrap up and finish a tackle. Nothing gets by him. Comes in and always ready when we need him. Durable, reliable. Probably the best linebacker on the field in most games.

So, here's to Jumper and always proving those where crimson underpants wrong. An example of a young man being coached up as a Tennessee vol.

Thanks for the daily "this is the most ethical way to act" thread. Lol. The problem is that everyone has seen jumper get totally burned. He isn't an sec caliber mlb. That one of the things that separates a team like us "trying to build" from a team like bama or Clemson that's already there. We basically have 1 sec mlb on the team.
In these types of situations I'd rather see a young guy, with the talent, get in there as opposed to a guy that knows all the plays but isn't athletic enough

Considering our early struggles against App State and Ohio, and the fact that we didn't put together 4 quarters of football together in a game before then, I don't think us losing to was far-fetched once we all saw how unprepared the team looked week in and week out.

Jumper is a good guy, and he will probably be ok in the GT game, but there's enough film of him against SEC opponents to know that he's physically outmatched by SEC receivers.

Is there a more polarizing player than Colton Jumper? He really gets the debate going

That's true, but, imo, it shouldn't be. Polarizing players are generally those players whose personalities are such that you love them or hate them. I saw an E:60 on Baker Mayfield, and his cocky personality makes him polarizing. Steve Spurrier's personality made him polarizing. James Franklin's personality makes him polarizing.
None of this is true of Colton Jumper. In my view, it's only because many on here want him to be AJ or JRM, and he isn't. He's not as talented and he is more limited in what he can do, but he sure gets all he can out of his talent and it seems to me he's the kind of VFL we ought to support, rather than degrade.

Jumper will be fine mentally. he can make all the calls and get everyone lined up and in the right spots. he can audible and get out of bad formations.

we'll just have to see if he's grown any athletically. we should see a lot of Gaulden as Nickel/hybrid to get speed outside and cover when need be. then you have Bituli, Mcdowell, Sapp and the Freshmen that will rotate. i'd imagine also that Bituli and Jumper will both play....Bituli probably at MLB and opposite Gaulden...

it may not change things all that much as long as he's not asked to cover in space, and can attack the LOS/assignment.

it still sucks not having your 3 best LB's available. but for this game, it may not be the end of the world.

we'll see.

Most games I would agree. Do you think we will see that much Nickel with GT based on the offense and formations they run?

if you believe what the coaches say, yes. last week there was an article where it was speculated very heavily that for this game, we'll see a lot of nickel, and Gaulden will play a big role....

they need to be able to set the edge, so it makes sense to get some speed at the OLB spots, with some good tacklers. then trust the DT's, and the LB's to play their gap assignment, and make tackles.

it was "wait and see" before DK went down. so from that standpoint, nothing's really changed
