nice analogy.

Having been there and seen the action from up close, how they managed and did things in the 80s and 90s was not all that difficult to do. It wasn't like they threw all caution to the wind and just focused on athletics. Not case at all.

But today's feel is like the athletics programs are just other school activities happening on campus. Not the desire there to make champions. JMO

Some singer said Vol football is the most important unimportant thing there is.

For the athletic dept to put player safety ahead of Championships, is a good thing. For anyone to put their own ego ahead of Champiobships, that's out of line.

It's hard to unsee stuff. Just another obstacle.

Who cares what "they" think is important. 121 knows the deal. We all want them to give their all while winning it all.

Winning is more fun than losing.

who said anything about losing interest in the game? As i posted before its always a 10 for me because i love watching the vols play, but my expectation of the season is an 8 because I don't expect them to be good. So my point was more to the nature of the discussion on volnation. Those of us that take a more realistic approach to expectations of the season are constantly told we know nothing and cant see whats going on and all the good things, talent etc. Now we have a true insider telling us thing are likely not going to be very good. The answer, stick our head in the sand and act like its not happening so we can still enjoy the game.
I will still enjoy watching every single game, I am bummed that I cant attend a game this year, as the entire family has done so for years.
So 82 can put some old adage about how wrapped up in it we are and mopping around about it or whatever. I am just a fan, wins and loses effect me very little now because I know what's important in life. My children said "stay away from daddy after Tennessee loses" for the last time many years ago.

If the sausage taste good, i hope they serve it at the factory tour.

1. Truly sorry you don't get to attend the game, I hope something changes somehow.

2. You are combining his two posts. The fact is, he doesn't like decisions made in the administration. His OPINION is how many wins we will have.
His friends emailing him their take on practice in no way means Florida has all their ducks in a row and will automatically win.

Are you still a patient, Charger? Not home yet? Isn't that baby due by now?!?

Lol.
Good news, been at home and work like it should be.
Bad news, an all too familiar pain to start the morning and steadily increasing.

Just hoping there's a reversal.. or in your scenario, I find a priest capable of an exorcism on Rosemary's Baby. That thing has got to go!

Last time we spoke you said you had to go back to the hospital and you had just gotten out. I just assumed you were still on the "weak" side.

You just need a good dose of some Vol football. Rub some dirt on it and it'll get you through to next Monday.

As they were growing up, my daughters never once said 'stay away from daddy after Tennessee loses'...ever. Because I never let a loss carry over into the important parts of my life: my family, service to our country, my faith.

So if this has happened to you, even if it was years ago, perhaps there's a part of you that tends to take your entertainment too seriously. Maybe you could do a better job distinguishing what's important in life from what's just a pastime.

Not judging, just saying that life's too short to turn entertainment into one of those things we get worked up over in a negative way. Even Vols football. Save the strongest emotions for the really important stuff.

agree with your post.

I've never lived and died with them. A win is a win and a loss is a loss. Being as close as I was fortunate to be for many years, you learn coaches and players are "real people". They have many distractions from football like we non-football people have many distractions from our daily life. Became evident to me long ago what little distraction could impact a football game. Things like a QB breaking up with his girl friend the night before a big game. Many would be surprised how that little event could impact a game.

So I learned to not live and die with them each Saturday. My wife many times asks me at games if I was truly interested due to my lack of emotion. Just the way I take in games.

My lack of interest this year is probably different than many fans. I talk less with many UT associates and fans than in years past. I spent 90% less time engaging with fans on message boards than in years past. That is how I assess my loss of interest..

But I knew long ago there were lots of things more important that football. Lost a family member in the middle of 1985 season. Had to stop going to games that year.. knew where priorities were...

So...we should be ingorant of facts so we can continuously hype ourselves up by posting silly threads on VN? Interesting take.

Why worry about things that you have no say in, not one little iota of input other than your dollars. If they want to screw things up it won't stop me supporting the team in the slightest. 12-0 or 0-12 I'm in.. ride or die brotha!!

Nothing will change this year. It sucks, but ill get over it on Dec 9th when my son and I attend the greatest event in all of sports as we will get to watch Navy start at new streak against Army, in person.

We will get back to vols games next year.

I get his point. To me it just invalidates all his overly optimisitic post. Doesnt really change much as i didnt think they were valid anyway.

These two things don't seem to go together. You're "in," but you'll get back to the Vols next year, the thing you're looking forward to this year is Army-Navy. Not the, oh, 12 Vols games between now and then. That sounds distinctly like you're not "in."

You really need to read that article Butchna posted about anti-fans. Really, really, to quote Shrek.

Creating your own facts to change what i said. Why do that? It sucks that we cant attend a vols game this year, .....because im paying for something my son and i have wanted to do for over a decade.
And you translate that to mean im not interested in the vols season at all? Are you really interested in creating some narrative you want me to fit in? Some sort of personal investment or something?

Yeah....it is sad that there are not MORE PEOPLE who truly see it his way and are willing to make corrections to the program....:salute:

Some of you on here wouldn't see the truth if it fell through your roof and on top of your head!

Been a fan since I had football consciousness and Condredge was our QB. Maybe it was the absence of the internet but we didn't curl into the fetal position due to perceived shortcomings of our university leaders. That would have most likely LWS'd us to oblivion before the 98 championship. :) When you don't have the stones or gut to champion your own team you need an excuse to justify it. Mike Hamilton made some questionable moves/decisions during his tenure, but even he didn't eventualize us to this foreboding doom if he had made the right hires. Maybe that concussion from your faulty roof removed that cognitive ability from your noggin. :)

Oh, you meant that you couldn't attend games in person when you said you'd get back to the Vols next year. Not that you were skipping the games entirely.

I apologize, I did misunderstand.

LWS, reminds me of the saying about the sausage factory.

If you like to eat sausage, never visit one.

Sounds like you got too close to all those behind-the-scenes things. Soured your taste for the product. Might've been better if you never saw what was inside the factory walls at all.

Kinda hard to "unsee it," I know, but if you want to get back to the excitement of being a Vols fan, you'll have to do your best. Figure out some way to pretend you never saw or experienced anything beyond the football, in the stadium, with the coaches and the lads.

I can't imagine dying without loving the Vols right into my grave. Would hate to see that happen to you. Hope you find a way to get back to the sheer thrill of being a fan.

:hi:

I can't like this enough.

You don't have to be an insider within the program to recognize the product on the field....

Almost every one of those guys on the SEC Network who have doubtful views for this year are former SEC PLAYERS...and some of them have actually played in the Super Bowl....

And they know that when it looks like sheet....and smells like sheet...you don't have to step in it to realize that it is sheet....

I salute any and all VOL FANS...

But the true problem in the program is exactly what LWS described.....

And just to jog everyone's memory....even CPF has been saying the same things LWS said for many, many years now...

What would you say to Phil?
Now that you're back, you over the FIRING? :)

Funny you would agree with a cut and paste to change what i sad. I usually take you to be the defender of truth.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Cut and paste? Where? Where did I agree? I was going to add to his comment but decided not to be a prick, so I just changed it to the **.

Not sure what your problem is, but I'm trying to stay out of it.

Someone trying to stay out of it wouldnt post anything. Its cool he admitted he didnt understand. Though its odd coming from a person who says we should never misunderstand anything written on here.
