Hope you enjoyed your pepper tonight Tin.

Hopefully you'll just say "thanks" and not tell me to shut up.

My experience with plank cooking is fish and pork tenderloin. Each time, I used cedar (had two planks). The fish was arctic char. Yum. The pork tenderloin turned out great.

I've never had any thing that was cooked on a plank. I must say it does sound tasty.

Had planked whitefish in season at Stafford's Weathervane Restaurant in Charlevoix, MI. Damned fine eatin'.

Any idea what these are? Looked like a tomato plant when it first popped up. Its beside a hardy hibiscus plant that hubby's sister gave us a cutting from.

I have no idea. The little fruit look like some type of pepper, from here. But I don't know.

It has the traits of a tomato plant, but the fruits are throwing me off. Like Behr said, they look like peppers.

My dad's pear tomatoes start out similar. Let them go and see what color they ripen too.

If you didn't plant it, you're gonna like this, it's a volunteer. When I see my dad this weekend, I'll show him the pix and see if he can identify it.

Behr, do you have any experience with a home-rigged sous vide setup? I'm wanting to do one to make my own syrups and need tips if you got 'em. Too cheap to buy a real one just to make syrups.

Though, I hear it's the perfect way to cook a steak and poach an egg.

No, not a home-rigged set up. I bought an immersion circulator several years ago after using a commercial sous vide unit. Not interested in that method of cooking.

Interesting you bring this up though. I have a couple of friends that have called me in the last month and told me they had gotten in to making cocktail syrups using this method. They're really getting into.

I've followed your posts and you seem to be on top of your game in mixology, sure wish I could help.

Have you already asked kiddiedoc and volinbham? I know one or both have experience in the home rigged set up.

Might try this thread...

Sous Vide Cooking

Smoked a chicken today. Was tired of the vinegar marinade. Googled citrus marinade and Mtn. Dew was mentioned with garlic added. First time I've ever marinated anything with a carbonated beverage. Was fantastic. Thoughts Behr?

That looks great comp.

Thoughts? I've personally never used Mountain Dew, but I have a friend that makes a blackberry glaze that includes mountain dew she serves on pork tenderloin that is phenomenal.

The sweetness and acidity in the mountain dew makes it a good ingredient for a marinade, especially with something like hot peppers and soy sauce.

Try Dr K, a sub for Dr Pepper.. it's excellent in most meats..
