Putting a face with a screen name

Broyles, are you talking about the section of 421 between Bristol and Mountain City? Like through the Shady Valley area?

I decided to go run 421 over to Mtn City. Nothing like almost killing yourself a couple of times to get the juices flowing. Could only get one race with two sport bikes, caught them after giving about a 10-12 second start.
These pics do not really show how steep nor how the curves come at you one after another.

Looks awesome. Sounds like your driving skills are in better shape than mine - I doubt I'd catch, let alone keep up with sportbikes. The second set looks more like the Dragon although it is more wooded and less open.

The Dragon is more of a up the side of a mountain drive -- it doesn't have the big switchbacks that your first set shows. Instead, it's tons of back and forth with small switchbacks. I definitely prefer driving up it vs. down it.

Up is much easier than down for me too, you look like your pushing it ok. Sportbikes will leave me like I'm still anywhere except the curvy sections. The second ridge where it is one after another is where they were today. A bike cannpt corner as quickly as a well handling car.

Reminds me of that line from Little Big Man. "Today is a good day to die"
Wow. Another Little Big Man fan. That's my favorite movie, ever. I've seen it about 20 times and know it from one end to the other. "Looks like they're whittling ya down pretty good, Mr. Meriweather"...

It is one of my top 5. I think it was D. Hoffman's best role(s).

Check out the book (by Thomas Berger) if you haven't already.

Broyles that section of 421 is nuts. Never actually knew it was famous or anything, just thought it was an old stretch of road no one ever smoothed out due to lack of significant traffic. Never "raced" it, but I've driven it harder than I should have for fun. I enjoy driving it slowly and enjoying the view. In the autumn it's gorgeous.
