So did Georgia and Ole Miss. And Georgia is now picked to win the East. Vandy was a good team at the end of the year. We had too many injuries on defense it caught up to us in the Vandy game.
Yeah the Vandy Game highlighted our injuries more than any other. To anyone who knows football, doesn't have an agenda, and was at the game could tell we were struggling to find somebody to put their hand on the ground and play DT...it was glaring obvious and Vandy did the smart thing and took advantage. And two crucial turnovers killed us... It's really silly that we're still hashing this out this late.
...and all of that ignores simply going game by game and analyzing the schedule and results. Anybody who knows anything about Tennessee football knows that the schedule set up beautifully after the bye week but we had not one but two bad losses.
The school record points and PPG numbers are the epitome of having your mind made up ahead of time and searching for stats that fit your sunshine pumper narrative. The point total was juiced against inferior competition/horrible defenses (55 against Tennessee Tech, 49 against Kentucky, 63 against Missouri). The offense also played badly against some inferior defenses (App St, Ohio, South Carolina). Against quality competition, the offense was either outright bad (Alabama) or wildly inconsistent (Virginia Tech, Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M).
That's the beauty of college football. They only play 12 regular season games, and you can just go game by game to do an analysis of how the season was. It isn't like baseball, basketball, or hockey where averages mean more.
Yep. Took advantage of the DL real well, by turning a D2 QB into Aaron Rogers and carving up our DBs like Thanksgiving turkeys.
This is the stuff I truly love....are you referring to their consensus 4 star, ESPN 300, QB? Or did someone else play?
Still shouldn't have happened. He may not have received great offers, but don't act like the kid isn't talented enough to play well.
Yes that's the one!
9 tds and 10 ints in the season.
Completing 54% of his passes.
Went for a full 20% of his season stats against the Vols. 415 yds and 2 TDS.
Part of the reason I still hold some hope. No matter how you feel about Jones, we had 10 wins and the East last year, for certain except.. for the defense.
I know the buck stops with the head coach in the end regardless. But I think deep down most on here know, his part wasn't what stopped us from reaching our goal last year.
He didn't do perfect either, but he did enough. Decent defense = division champs & 10 wins minimum.
They were a pile of crap.
I would love to hear the plan that the anti-Butch crew has to get rid of him. Replace him with who? Completely destroy our '18 recruiting class in the process? We actually do have an amazing coaching staff now, what the hell, let's just blow it all up and see what happens right?
Be honest, you have no plan, no idea what would happen and think it's funny to call Vandy "Candy" or Gators "gators" and don't realize how ****ing lame you make yourself look. Check that, all Vol fans look. It's embarrassing.
Funny how those teams are really good teams until UT beats them - then they are mediocre. Same was said about VT - great team, going to beat UT, then UT won and VT becomes a mediocre team.
Some of you are so predictable.
Ahh, the classic "you would hate him even if he won the NC" bull****. Make an argument so outlandish, it can't possibly be proven true. Some of you posters will still be calling for CBJ's head even if we won the NC. You put all of the blame on him for the losses but would never give him credit for what he has done positve or if we do go 10-2 or 11-1. So guess what. We're on to you and your pathetic *****ing and moaning. Enjoy crying your way through the upcoming season. The rest of us will enjoy the positives we get. Or, you could become a bandwagon Bammer, then you can be happy, maybe....
