"He's not a yelling type of guy. He's going to sit with you and just explain it to you and make you go over the corrections. He's not like an up-in-your-face type of guy. It doesn't really matter what type of coach that is to me any way, but I feel like that's a really good coaching way, because not a lot of guys are good at being yelled. If you're a coachable player, you know, that's just amazing. He's a player coach."

..."He talks with me about life and improving yourself and becoming successful and becoming successful mentally instead of just physically," Jones explained. "He sits you down and makes you come back to reality and lets you know that everything happens for a reason. He's a big guy on Jesus Christ, so I really respect that. He's a player coach. He's everything Tennessee needs or whatever we need.

"There's nothing better than having a coach that can put the cleats on and run it with you. He can show you something and you have a visual understanding of how he wants it done, when you're supposed to turn your eyes around and when you're supposed to have your feet turned and all the small things, having your hands up and reacting to the ball, all the things that are really small keys."

Man I'm really impressed with this new coaching staff. I know it means nothing without results on the field, but it is great to see recruits and players so high on our staff. In my opinion, it seems Tennessee is being talked about more favorably amongst recruits now. We just need those on-field results to really take it to the next level.

It is great to hear these things. The offense & the staff will be a great unknown entering the season. More so than when we tried the Clawfense. I hope the results are better.

Be cautious. Sometimes kids react well to something different, not necessarily something better. It's year 3 or 4 where you start to really see the impact culturally.

But I do agree. There is something quietly exciting about this staff.

I think the article meant to say "player's coach", not player coach...But either way, it's nice to know a position coach has built that type of reputation this early in his UT coaching spot...

"He's a big guy on Jesus Christ,"

This is huge for our program and our players. This is the ground work for culture we need.

Yeah just ask Saint Mark richt

I'm not sure if that's a shot at Richt, but when it's all said and done, you shouldn't be too surprised if he has more success at Miami than that guy they fired him for does at Georgia. I can see Richt giving Clemson and Florida State problems.

How so? Are you saying we need a "christian" culture?

I think it's a huge plus to have kids with this mentality and belief. I think it speaks volumes to the character of the players and it gives us a better chance of staying outta the news with negativity with players gettin in trouble and having off field issues.

And side note, I think this whole world needs more of a Christian culture. But that's just my opinion, not tryin to derail the thread.

Be careful thinking like that in today's world. I agree though.

When you're referring to my best friend, you need to capitalize His name. Are you inferring we need an atheistic culture? Many of us on VN disagree quite a bit, but...thank the Lord... most of us recognize that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior of anyone who accepts Him into their/our lives. You?

He's saying it is actually possible to have a positive environment that cultivates good men of character without any affiliation to religion.

Are you inferring that an atheist culture would be inadequate?

of course it's a positive to have a Christian culture . Christ lived a life without sin, of service to OTHERS not the almighty self that is worshipped by the masses today. To be a Christian means to strive to be like Him, Christ. Act morally, and for the greater good of others (the team) rather than just yourself. Whether those posting here choose to worship the God of the Bible or not, there can be no doubt that Jesus Christ was not just a good man, He was The Perfect Man...who knew no sin...and to strive to achieve the selfless character and moral compass he possessed are a great quality in any player who genuinely strives for those things. There will always be hypocrites among followers that non believers point to as a reason not to follow, just like there are bad doctors, lawyers, police etc. We are humans, and deeply flawed.

1. If God does not exist, objective moral values do not exist.

2. Objective moral values do exist.

3. Therefore, God exists

Famous philosophical argument for a Creator. I think the ontological, teleological, and scientific arguments for God are quite interesting. John Lenox and William Lane Craig destroying atheists in debates is quite enlightening. I remember a hidden camera vid of Christopher Hitchens in a cab where someone asked him what is the one argument that makes you second guess atheism? And he replies that it would be the "fine tuning" Luke Barnes wrote a book recently with an atheist giving counterpoints about this recently, very interesting subject

maybe I'm wrong, but, it seemed to me post was saying..."keep your nose clean and stay out of jail" culture...:)

GO VOLS!

Yeah I think we ALL understand what he's saying and only a fool would believe otherwise.,,..Jesus Himself said the world hated Him before it did us....I'm am very thankful Coach Beard is on staff. And sounds like his faith is genuine..,you will know them by their fruits....Good job CKB...count it all joy!
