CBS-Bold prediction -- CBJ out before november

I don't even see this guy's prediction as particularly bold.

The opener against Tech is a game that Tennessee should win but is by no means a sure thing. If we drop that one and then lose to either/both Florida or Georgia, which aren't games Tennessee necessarily should win, then I think we all know that Butch's seat would be thermonuclear. If we are 2-3 going into the bye, would they fire him? I don't think it is totally out of the realm of possibility.

I actually think we can lose to Tech, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and LSU and he keeps his job, but only because of the buyout. Butch's floor is 6-6. If he does any better than that, I think he stays.

Even if he's less than six wins the buyout keeps him an extra year.

Then, what do you do if he has 8 wins next year?

No way this happens. UT would wait until right before NSD to fire Butch

Yep, whenever Big Haslam sends the order....which, based on his other decisions the last 10 years, will be, as you said Count, about 24-36 hours before NSD.

Title is misleading, the writer never says specifically Jones will be gone, just that 5 Power 5 coaches will be gone and says he's on the hot seat.

If Currie thinks CBJ isn't the guy, the buyout won't stand in his way of doing what he thinks is right for the program. UT is in solid financial shape. Not sure why anyone would think otherwise.

The topic was the OPs subject, not the useless article.

You clicked on the stupid link and I didn't. So, you calling me ignorant is almost a compliment.

Oh, and just in case you missed it.........:finger3:

At the risk of prolonging this conversation, the only way to know the OP's subject was the topic would be to read the article and see that author never said it.

However, just knowing that you and I are so different makes me feel good all over. Thanks for brightening my day. I hope I have been able to do the same for you.

Unless Tennessee goes 5-7 or worse Butch will be roaming the Tennessee side lines in 2018. His revamped coaching staff and the breaking in of a new starting QB bought him an extra year.

I mean its definitely possible we could be 4-4 in October if we have a lot of injuries for the 3rd straight year.

Bold prediction... Tennessee wins the east and stuns Alabama in Atlanta.

I don't think that got him any extra time. What may have bought him more time is a new AD and the buyout. After what happened with the AD search, I really think one person will make the decision and we all know who that is.

Even though I said I wasn't sure who it was, I do have a good idea. But another thing that I wonder. If he has the power to have Butch fired whenever he thinks he should be, wouldn't he have a lot to say about who replaces him? If so, does that not worry any of you?

Calamity Broadcasting System. People need to wake up and turn off the news. NASCAR used drivers as announcers this past week and coverage improved a lot because they kept their mouths shut for the most part. Remember how we were going to win the National Championship as forecast this time last year? What ever happened to Leonard's Losers? Now that, at least, was entertaining and radio.

I wonder if you gave these sports pundits two and only two choices which one they would choose as more lilely:

1.UT wins 9 or 10 and wins the East
2.Butch doesn't make it out of the season.

That would give you a good feel for what people really believe.
The most probable result however is that Butch wins 7 and nothing happens to him.

Not too far of a stretch prediction. If we somehow lose to GT, Fl and UGA, and crap the bed VS Bama, the UK game could be do or die for CBJ. Lose that and the new AD could pull the plug.

For the record, I think we win those games, but this is the SEC...

I asked the question months ago what would happen if UT dropped 3 of its first five games which isn't a big stretch given how unprepared Butch has his team at the beginning of games. They could easily get caught off guard and up end the season before it really gets rolling. Or Dormady could very well be the next Manning. Guess we will see.

If you can't see the difference between a Herbstreit "bold prediction" (to use just one reasonable example) and this guy's outrageous guesses, then I can't help you.

Sure, crazy stuff happens. Good analysts find the nuggets of knowledge that allow them a reasonable chance at predicting a few of those crazy things. This guy doesn't have that feel at all. And, by his own admission, he's apparently not very good at it.

p.s. Since you seem to think this writer might actually not be full of bull, let's do this: I'm gonna make a "bold prediction" right now that this guy gets at least four of these five predictions dead wrong. I would say all five, but there's a lot of fudge-room in his #3 about the Bama freshman (like, how does he define "steady part"?). If he gets any of the other four predictions right, I'll learn the Gator fight song (assuming there is one) and type all the lyrics into a post here on VolNation. If he gets all four of them wrong, you get to hand-type all the lyrics to Rocky Top into a post for us here. Deal?

If that's how you feel this another example of how differently one interprets a phrase.

To me, a "bold prediction" is something that has a very remote chance of happening. If it didnt contradict conventional wisdom in a blatant manner, it wouldn't be much of a bold prediction.

Considering I'm still not sure what the UT Administration expects of Butch, I think it could make a huge difference.

Good point. Is UT even a football school anymore. That question needs to be answered.

In the last sentence it clearly has 6 listed. CBJ is last. Didn't go to link. Just read the OP.

It says he is on the "hot seat" and nothing else. It certainly does not state that he will be out by November, but only that it is possible for those six.

The first sentence started the authors opinion. The last sentence showed who he thought it would be. Usually when someone references the hot seat it means that job is endangered. I believe you and sane just like to nitpick. Just saying.

While I agree he will probably miss on most of these. Gator is partially right. If you don't know who Tua or Akers are, you aren't following football very closely.

Why? Because he doesn't follow recruiting?
I follow recruiting and unless you just enjoy doing so, it's pointless.
20 schools fighting over 1 kid that may or may not live up to the hype.

Until the modern era, there wasn't ranking sites and hardly anyone followed recruiting. Yet the true fb fans knew a hell of a lot about football.
I'm guessing you didn't mean to be rude but to suggest if someone doesn't follow the stats of high school kids and stalk their twitter, they don't follow actual fb? Well that's just bullsh^t.
