LaVar is an idiot. The idea is right, but his execution is awful. Moreover, he just seems like a terrible and disrespectful person. I read an article on CBS earlier where he essentially threatened a woman when asking him why he wouldn't consider marketing the shoes to women. Just one example of many.

You need to not believe everything you read. That reporter was being an incredible idiot and he said "bad things happen to people who act like you." Watch the interview, she was forcing an agenda and he didn't even come close to threatening her. That woman embodies so many things that I hate about our culture and the media.

This is out of context, obviously, but the actual quote was:

“I never disrespect women. But I’ll tell you what, if you act like that, guess what? Something’s coming to you, and it’s okay.”

I love LaVar Ball. He knows what he's doing. He's already made Lonzo into a household name. Once that kid starts to ball out in the NBA that shoe and brand will blow up.

This might be revolutionary.

This kid is already to big for his britches, and I hope somebody like LeBron James sticks a "big baller" in his mouth! :p

And for probably the only time in his life, he was right. She was acting horribly and forcing an agenda that had nothing to do with the interview.

Yes. In case we want to record it.

Just yesterday I got an ESPN alert about Lavar saying that Lonzo will only work out for the Lakers and that their playoff drought ends as soon as Lonzo gets there. What a dumb thing to say and an insult to all other NBA teams. I hope the Lakers take Fox from UK and let Lonzo fall to a bottom dweller small market team.

If you're a GM and Lonzo falls to you because the only team him and his dad wanted to be on passes on them, do you draft him knowing he will just want to leave for the Lakers in free agency first chance he gets? I wouldn't.

I would just send him a letter in the mail with nothing but:

Matthew 23:12

"For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."

Good luck.

Sincerely,

GM

Sports news has become nothing but an NBC morning show. Too drama driven. I've found myself not even watching any type of sports news anymore except for listening to Ainge in the morning on my way to work.

Spot on. 👍🏼

I feel for the kid. I do think he will be a good player in the NBA, but his dad is putting some huge pressure on his shoulders.

Lavar is a clown, but Lonzo may very well be the best player available.

Ryan Leaf had talent. Talent doesn't always overcome nonsense and drama and headaches that situations like this can cause. And talent only gets you so far, you need focus and discipline to maximize talent, and I think Ball's situation is ripe for squanderimg talent. JMO

If he's not mature enough to walk away from a circus, he's not mature enough to handle the NBA spotlight and still do his job.

I am a Lakers fan and they need to pass.

This type of behavior does not need to be rewarded.

Just MO.

I wouldn't consider it bad behavior, just seems like the situation is primed to be one where the kid isn't ready to be in a massive spotlight and still perform up to his ability.

Lonzo isn't a head case tho. It's his moronic dad. All he did was perform all year.

Would you want to negotiate anything contract related knowing his dad would be involved? No thanks.

I would. He's ignorant, and will not listen to his representation. If he's so confident (the dad), then stuff the contract with performance incentives and make Lonzo rich IF he performs.

That said, I wouldn't want that joker anywhere around my team or city. But his boy can play, and I don't hold his crazy dad against him.

But if he's not separating himself from that (not saying ditch his dad, but ditch the guy professionally), isn't that a cause for concern? I mean, he's refusing to work out for any team but the Lakers. That's on him, not his dad. Edit and as some others have said, contract negotiations would be a nightmare and could result in his not even playing as a worst case.

And performing in college is very different than the NBA. The spotlight in LA shines MUCH brighter on the Lakers than the Bruins.

This kid couldn't even hold Fox's jock strap and can't defend a pick and roll. His defense is suspect in college. He will get torn up in the NBA. Hot Take: he will be average at best.
