Still doesn't negate the fact that it is poor use of funds. No reason we should be spending nearly 40K on participantion trophies. That fact that we like to publicize it is partly why we'll never be taken seriously as an elite football program until we start winning real championships.

It's nice to see that UT is willing to spend the money on a little something for the players. Even if some believe they don't deserve them, it's still a good looking ring. If they ever need to sell it, it will bring more than scrap.

You're insufferable just because you're miserable in general. Honestly, what's the point in getting upset that the team got rings for winning a bowl game? There isn't one.

Come on. If I say it's a little silly to have rings for the Music City Bowl, that doesn't mean I'm not a Tennessee fan. It's a perfectly reasonable opinion to have, for any non-playoff bowl, even if all of them are doing it. Not really a shot to anyone, nor the horrific criticism that some are acting like it is.

Overreact much? No one is out throwing rocks in the streets or organizing a boycott. It's just a conversation.

We all want to feel like our school is building a culture of winning that will lead to conference championships and competing for national championships -- what most of us would consider "real" accomplishments by historical standards. As such, we fans tend to analyze everything. So do tokens like this contribute to the process of building a winning program or detract from it? I don't think anyone really knows, but it's kind of interesting to talk about.

I think there is a generational component to this. If you're above a certain age, you probably don't see the point of a MCB ring. If you're younger, you probably think it's great.

I'm younger, I think as a player I'd still rather get something extra in my swag bag (an Xbox, Beats, Best Buy gift card, whatever) with the money the organizers instead spent on MCB rings. But it's their money, they can spend it how they like
