Josh Dobbs - NFL Draft thread (merged)

Here's the deal. The Browns need a QB. Someone IS going to take a QB in the first 10 picks. So if the Browns go Garrett at one, someone else is going to grab Trubisky. Now, where do the Browns look for a QB?

who? the jets? 49ers? you better hope your front office folks aren't thinking like you do.

there's no qb in this draft worth a top 10 pick, period.

personally, if i was a team like SF or NYJ that thinks it has to have a qb in this draft, i'd look at trading back, load up a few more picks and get my qb later on. in the meantime, i'd load up on all the other talent that's available at other positions...

If I'm Dobbs and I got drafted by the Browns I'm not so sure I don't just go ahead and switch careers.

Browns are where you go to kill a career.

as to where do you go to get a qb from there? who cares, pick one. they're all crap shoots. you think MT is going to save your franchise?

You would have to get back into the top couple of picks... like before 5. Everyone, including the 49ers are telling the Browns that they are going to take Trubisky. The Browns do not think they are going to come away with both. Now, if you need THE MOST IMPORTANT part of your football team, if you have picked 9 "game changing, generational, transformative" defensive players since 2000 that are NO LONGER PLAYING. In a draft that is deep with defense.... you just go get your QB at one.

Now here the question... as much as Sashi loves the draft game, why has it been leaked to everyone that they want Trubisky?

duh. is this the first draft you've watched?

siap, i'd take garett at one and dare anyone else in the top 5 or 6 or 10 for that matter, to take one of these qb's with the kinds of players that are going to be available that high in this draft. Jamal Adams, Solomon Thomas, the two DBS from Ohio State, Jonathon Allen, Reuben Foster, LF, CM etc...all better prospects that any of these qb's.

but, go ahead, keep on keepin on with what you're believing...

What does any of this have to do with Dobbs?

honestly dd, i hope what you're saying happens. for sheer entertainment value alone, and the continued demise of the browns, nothing would make me happier for them to take MT at 1.

i guess he's missing the part where RC floundered around the NFL for a decade, with his only contribution being highlights on the nightly news, before finally settling in as a pocket passer, very late in his career with the Vikings.

yeah, that's the path JD should want to be on.

Randall Cunningham was a 2-time MVP (1990 and 1998). He was First Team All-Pro twice (1990 and 1998). He was Second Team All-Pro twice as well (1988 and 1992). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randall_Cunningham

I would personally think 2 MVP awards and 4 All-Pro selections for Josh would be a great career.

I think there is a very good possibility that Cleveland could draft Trubisky at number 12. Anybody drafting a quarterback in the top 10 in this draft is a moron.

You really have no clue how this game is played. Do you?

Good great people... why would Sashi "leak" to everyone he wants Trubisky unless he has his sun glasses on.

As with every single draft that has taken place, there are two possibilities:

1. He actually likes Trubisky, and is considering drafting him. Maybe that means with the 1, maybe it means with the 12, maybe it means that he's open to trading up and he's trying to find a partner.

2. He isn't planning on drafting Trubisky, and he's trying to see if anyone is desperate enough to trade up to get him.

Those are the two possibilities that actually make rational sense. If you think there are any others, I'd love to see what you've got.

Stop talking about Randall Cummingham like you know anything about him or at the very least, ever saw him play.

What would be the point of leaking that you are taking Trubisky at #1? You have absolutely nothing to gain. The only teams "leaking" that they have interest in Trubisky are the other 5 top draft pick teams to get the Browns to be dumb and take a QB 1.

it just can't be........you mean there are teams behind Cleveland that might want Garrett? what tomfoolery is this?

Except some of those came with great wide receivers like Randy Moss and Chris Carter so by your logic he should be discounted for that just like you do with Deshaun Watson. Regardless though searching wikipedia and finding players that had similar career accomplishments as you view for Dobbs and then using that as a comparison is absurd. Using your "strategy" of choosing random black quarterback that has career numbers you want Dobbs to have, somebody could just as easily draw a comparison to say Kordell Stewart

Never saw him play live but I did watch a lot of his games on YouTube. Not just the highlights but full games of the Eagles circa the early 90s are on YouTube. And after watching those games, I realized Dobbs is just like Cunningham.

The long slender body types are the same. Both have similar throwing motions. And strong arms. Both are also incredibly elusive and make defenders look stupid on the regular.

Josh Dobbs will be as dynamic in the NFL as Randall Cunningham.

yet for the vast majority of his career, he was the subject of criticism everywhere he went.

can't win with a qb like that. this is a pocket passing league. the eagles will never win a championship etc, etc, etc...

it wasn't until he was with the vikings, late in his career that he finally got the credit he deserved, and that was only because at his age, his legs couldn't do it anymore. he had to be a pocket qb, and was. for a short time.

had he never gotten that chance with the vikings to end his career, all RC would have is highlights and a nice resume.

he was never going to be considered with the group of his qb peers--elway, montana, marino, sims etc....

if all you care about is his individual achievements, then you've picked the right guy.

but you've also lowered the ceiling on what he maybe can do as a team mate (RC wasn't a very good one back in the day), and as a championship contender.

it won't matter if it doesn't help the team win a super bowl. and there's a strong case to be made that RC was a roadblock for Philly ever doing anything of consequence in the post season.

for that reason alone, the comparison stops at "athletic ability" and "skin color". RC wasted a lot of his talent during the first 3/4 of his career. sure, he put up big numbers, and compiled quite the resume. didn't mean a thing to doing anything bigger. RC was in it for RC for a while, and it wasn't until he got over that, grew up a little bit, and learned how to be a professional, that he finally got the credit he deserved.

it's a bad comparison for all the stereotypical reasons anyone can think of.

dobbs is more like Cam Newton than he is Randall CUnningham, as a qb.
