I think DKjr has 3-n-out potential. We'll see if he can do it but I'm expecting him, Jauan, and John Kelly to declare after this season.

I'm probably in a significant minority on this one, but I see DK as a very good, but not exceptional LB.

I think we have him until he graduates.

Is #53 hurt or relaxing on a beach somewhere. He seems to get on the field a lot in games but it looks to me like he needs more practice than the others...and I didn't see him in the LB clip.

I was at practice on Thursday. I'm in no way claiming to be a subject matter expert. And I know my opinion is just that, mine. However I went into practice thinking it's got to be JG over QD. I left practice thinking QD is a lot better this year. His footwork was awesome and got praised several times from Canales. Although he was fussed at heavily during one drill (but it was actually kind of funny and Canales turned it fairly lighthearted). I would say JG threw with a lot more velocity but QD was a lot more accurate. TO ME it seemed QD ourworked JG today. Just my opinion. And it was only one day. Several dropped passes early buy WR's but cleaned it up. JJ had a nice seam route and headed for the endzone. I mainly watched QB and WR. Although I did watch John Kelly do a few footwork drills early in practice. It was a good day and I'm excited to see how the QB battle plays out.

Perfect example of how Butch and staff have mishandled the roster. Plays as true frosh at LB. Redshirt and beef up to DE, and then immediately move back to LB.

I'm not against JG starting but this offense is not about a running QB. This is a totally different team that has 0 to do with a running QB. Better get through your heads. They are trying to turn this into a pro style attack. Because of that I'm pretty confident QD will get the start, and it's because of his quiet confidence. He is obviously more comfortable because of his age, experience, and time in the system. JG will take over next year.

We will see when the season starts. I think both will play even in the Florida game. It will be interesting to see where they are by the Alabama game.

You obviously having been paying attention. He came on last year at 260 from overeating according to Thig. Sounds like the coaches were upset about it. They moved him because he got big and slow. He put in the work to lose weight and get faster and now they have moved him back. That's on him. Not the coaches.

I disagree. Last year ’s injuries required a lot of stranger things to occur on the defensive act year. You do what you can to get a team on the field and Austin Smith was an attempt to get players fill the gaps caused by those injuries. Things seem to be much more positive this Spring and it appears that more players are in their best positions. Your post is a perfect of a poster who will blame CBJ regardless of the circumstances. I am sure you will take advantage of any and every instant to keep on trolling.

Both look good. I've been hard on Dormady in the past but I must say he's impressing me this off-season.

I'll wait until the spring game but it might not be the disaster I thought it would if he gets the starting.

JG should still get playing time. But I'm warming up to the idea of Dormady potentially being the starting QB.

I would have been comfortable starting last year's Dormady this coming season. but it would have been a major drop off but not Worley-esque (no knock on him). from what we have seen it seems like they have both stepped up.

I guess both have stepped up their games knowing they are actually playing for the spot instead of mop up duty.

FTR your timeline here is wrong. They tried Smith out at DE last spring after he put on a load of weight, but he was back at LB during the fall.

He redshirted because of a shoulder injury he hadn't recovered from.

I'd say Smith is more indicative of how our S&C program failed our players than mismanagement by the coaches regarding player positions.

One account, with not much reporting on Saturday's practice...
QD was rushed once and JG rushed twice.
QD used his legs to escape pressure when hurried. JG was sacked both times. Just one practice but I'm keeping an open mind about this contest.

Heard, but sacks in scrimmage might not equate to sacks in the game. They blow the play dead if a defender gets anywhere near the QB in scrimmages.

Im an optimist. So with that being said, can my fellow VolNation agree that the QB position is in good hands regardless of who gets the nod on September 4th? I love seasons after we lose major contributors for the soul fact that it is intriguing to see who shines this year. I feel like we have A LOT of guys ready to play big boy football this year. They are finally going to get their chances to prove it. Darrell Taylor, Sapp, Warrior, Latrell Williams, Brandon Johnson, Callaway, Austin Smith, Bituli, Mcdowell, Kelly, Byrd... and the list goes on. I love the fact that We will be checking Jersey numbers when we line up on offense and defense this year. Some years you know who is in regardless of the down and distance. This year is different which makes this team so intriguing to me. Anyone else agree with me here?

Eh, I'm withholding judgment.

The last coach we all got on board with because he was fiery was Sunseri.

That temperament can backfire pretty easily.

Eh, I think if Sunseri was our LB's coach and not D-Coordinator it would have been a lot better results. Wells is fine as a position coach. I'm glad he has some fire, because that unit needs a fire lit under the a$$.

I could be wrong, but I think Colton Jumper (#53) is injured and out for the spring. He will prob be about 5th on the depth chart when he returns.
