Ukraine II: The Fight Against Russian Aggression

Surprise, surprise--guess who was in Moscow?

That chick has a huge head

The article talks repeatedly about reducing the size of the equipment needed to fire such a laser, and I see why that would be important as it could become mobile...and attack.

Doesn't it make sense to you to also focus on building lasers that are simply very effective, regardless of size, at shooting down missiles? I don't care if the things were so big and needed so much juice that you had to build them next to power plants themselves...doesn't it seem like the US and even mor3so Israel would love to have a true working laser system that would make missiles and rockets dang near useless? Seriously, if you could only build 1 next to a power plant, but it could rotate 360 degrees, a Ray of light should have endless range until it ran into a solid object given enough power...other countries would pay incredible amounts of money for that technology....not to mention it could nullify the nuclear threat to our country. I wonder why they don't mention that or aren't working on it? I know Reagan wanted a star wars program where we could use satellites for missile defense...Wonder if we are working on that. I know China is working hard on their laser program because I have read about it. Lasers have already been deployed in our navy...they will be a huge portion of future weapons imo. Right now they are prohibited on the battlefield by international law...but in a real war who cares about the law?

i think in both cases right now pretty much only our carriers and one of the new cruisers or something can power either one. but that is just the stuff we know about. tip of the ice berg. i actually saw a show on rail guns ten years ago on the history channel's "future weapns" show. so if they could talk about it way back then i feel it is way more than a theoretical now.

There's a UN protocol the U.S. agreed to against the use of laser weapons intended to cause blindness, but not lasers in general (that I'm aware of).

Blinding Laser Weapons (Protocol IV) - www.state.gov

Article 1:
It is prohibited to employ laser weapons specifically designed, as their sole combat function or as one of their combat functions, to cause permanent blindness to unenhanced vision, that is to the naked eye or to the eye with corrective eyesight devices. The High Contracting Parties shall not transfer such weapons to any State or non-State entity.

Article 2:
In the employment of laser systems, the High Contracting Parties shall take all feasible precautions to avoid the incidence of permanent blindness to unenhanced vision. Such precautions shall include training of their armed forces and other practical measures.

Article 3:
Blinding as an incidental or collateral effect of the legitimate military employment of laser systems, including laser systems used against optical equipment, is not covered by the prohibition of this Protocol.

Article 4:
For the purpose of this protocol "permanent blindness" means irreversible and uncorrectable loss of vision which is seriously disabling with no prospect of recovery. Serious disability is equivalent to visual acuity of less than 20/200 Snellen measured using both eyes.

"Rules of war" strike me as odd. It's OK to blow someone to pieces, but don't you dare make them blind!

Yeah, I'm imagining an amendment to the protocol to implement a playground dodgeball rule: "If you hit someone with a laser above shoulder level, you're out." :)

And then sending them over to support so called local "separatists" in reality they are Russian regulars.

The Russian are basically using Ukraine as a testing ground for their weapons. They have sent the separatists over 16 new types of drones for them to use and upgraded T-90 tanks.

The Russian military could reach Kiev in less than 72 hours...I'll put the house on it..

Russians are in Ukraine fighting for the seperatist, but these are not the Russian regulars you are projecting...been through this...

Every conflict ever? You haven't a clue...

WWII, Afghanistan, Chechnya. I can think of some others where they raped and pillaged their way through entire countries. The Russian Army is literally known for raping every woman from age 8 - 80 when they occupied East Germany.

And they were our allies in WW1 and WW2...

Rapes happen in every war...

What else you got?

The Senate finally approved Montenegro's NATO membership request 97-2 with only Mike Lee and Rand Paul voting no I believe. With the Senate's vote it clears the last major obstacle for Montenegro to formally join as I think only Spain has yet to vote in favor.

They might as well send a fat check to us.

Baltic states think Russia is laying the groundwork for looming 'kinetic operations

http://www.businessinsider.com/russia-propaganda-in-lithuania-attack-on-the-baltics-2017-4

The Russians are apparently claiming that that Klaipeda, the country's third largest city, never belonged to Lithuania and that it was a gift of Stalin after the second world war.

"The former deputy chairman of the Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, Vladimir Zhirinovsky is among those who have challenged Lithuania’s right to exist. According to him the eastern part of Lithuania where our capital is should be connected to Belorussia, and the western part should be connected to Russia.”

The Russians? Or a "former" Duma member? One guy questions the origin of the Lithuanian capital, Klaipeda, and now there is this "terrifying" feeling that Russia will overrun Lithuania? Lol

Like Dmitry Peskov(Russian spokesman) said, this is nothing but "hysterical Russophobia"....like most everything else printed in MSM these days...pure propaganda..

This is akin to what Volprof would resort to....

Anybody disagreeing or presenting facts is a Kremlin troll...you can do better...

There are 330,000 Russian Troops based on its Western border with 200,000 based on its border with Latvia and Estonia and 10,500 on it Border with Lithuania. So excuse me for not believing the words that come out of Russian sympathizers.

Show me one place where Russia and it's cronies are stationing thousands of soldiers, tanks, APC's and conducting drills on the "US" border?

Both of these are peninsulas which naturally protrude into proximity of Alaska and our ally Japan...

You and I both would expect Russia to arm this area(since its inside their own borders)...the same as us and Japan...

I'm talking about massing troops and armor on the US border via another sovereign country...

And neither of these places border the US, btw...
