Good post. I think he's a very good back but I do not consider him to be elite or a future heisman candidate.

I'm not sold that he can carry the ball 20 times a game against the big boys and put up the same type of numbers he did against the back half of or schedule.

Nothing outlandish about that stance in my opinion.

Agreed on the carries. Can do it a few times but similar to Kamara not sure you want Kelly getting hit 25-30 times a game and still be happy with what you got left at backend of your schedule. Really need 2 guys to step up behind him and take load off to keep him fresh. Can also try to get him ball outside to get out of bounds some to avoid some of Those big hits and get him high carries. He is such a physical runner for his size. Asking him to run up gut thT many times likely leads to injury

That's much more realistic than first round I think.

Just think about this... they are right now projecting him to get picked in the third round.... and he hasn't been the featured back yet for a year... played against inferior opponents.... and a single down of football has yet to be played this year....

I'm all for John Kelly being a 1500 yard rusher. Want it to happen big time. But using last season's yardage is a bit misleading in that he had a grand total of 6 carries for 26 yards against Appy, Va Tech, Ohio, Florida, Georgia and Bama combined. For the most part those teams happened to be the group with the better D's on the schedule last season. He basically ran it up against the worst on the schedule. My advice is to hold the hype while hoping he really is a star.

Hard to get a flow in those games averaging 1 attempt per game...

Not his fault he was stuck behind Kamara & Hurd.

Yes...TN Tech (14.9ypc) skewed his attempts.

But...

A&M (#80 rush D) = 6.8ypc (13 attempts)
SCar (#90 rush D) = 6.7ypc (14 attempts)
Kentucky (#110 rush D) = 5.9ypc (16 attempts)
Missouri (#112 rush D) = 5.6ypc (18 attempts)
Nebraska (#43 rush D) = 4.7ypc (15 attempts)

Definitely not elite defenses, but he did alright considering. Another offseason is going to do nothing but help him out.

In my opinion yes. He could not be trusted to carry the ball the bulk that Jalen did. Not to mention Jaylin was very very good.

Jalen wasn't the same last year. I would guess there were some outside factors the lead to him continuing to start, but he looked like the third best back. That's hard to dispute

Question for you guys. Doesn't most 1st round draft picks have a camera in their house to show the player and family once drafted? (If they're not attending the actual event) if so I will probably be on tv flashing the vols hand sign lol
