I don't understand this Kelly talk...
he ran like 20 mph... maybe 18 can't remember exactly... extremely shifty in open field...
He is a one cut and go when pressing the hole...
He is strong on his lower body...
he is a perfect back for this system... and heisman talk doesn't surprise me at all... He IS that good...

21.5 mph in a game not workouts. In an actual game. Kid squats like 500+ and runs 21.5 mph on topside plus he has great vision and leg drive. Watch this year what he does if he stays healthy. Kid is special, plus he can catch the ball out of the backfield.

John Kelly stats last year. 98 carries 630 yards 6.4 avg per carry. Feed the man for a whole season and see what happens. 😎😎😎😎

Oh and did I mention he has a veteran experienced line.

I'm with you BB.... he runs with great leverage... he doesn't dance much behind the line... and makes you miss in the open field... I have no idea why people aren't more excited about him... smh. 😎

Half the board is and half the board is acting like he's just an average RB. Smh lol

Tonymysterymeat bumping current players' recruit threads instead of just putting info in the football talk thread. Is it not enough, Tony, for you to shat all over the recruiting tweets thread, but now you want to say "look at me!" all over the recruiting forum too?

End rant.

Kid is about to break it off.

I'm all for John Kelly being a 1500 yard rusher. Want it to happen big time. But using last season's yardage is a bit misleading in that he had a grand total of 6 carries for 26 yards against Appy, Va Tech, Ohio, Florida, Georgia and Bama combined. For the most part those teams happened to be the group with the better D's on the schedule last season. He basically ran it up against the worst on the schedule. My advice is to hold the hype while hoping he really is a star.

A lot of that was in the softer, latter half of our schedule. But I think he's shown the potential to be a top back in the league, and it wouldn't surprise me if people mention him with Chubb and Guice by the end of the year as a candidate for 1st team All SEC.

That's assuming we run our QB from game #1. A lot of Kelly's (and AK's) yards came when coaches finally started running Dobbs, and that opened things up for AK and JK a lot. If we go back to a non-running QB in our offense, none of our backs will look good.

Edit got Vols4us-ed in my main point

When I get paid like Butch Jones and have about $8 mill coming my way for getting fired, let me know.

Butch Jones hasn't built up enough equity in his first 4 years in order to feel safe at 8-4. Not sure what is so extreme about that stance.

If he goes 8-4 listen to the gnashing of teeth that will be going on and tell me how safe he should feel.

If we even entertain firing him for going 8 and 4 considering where this program was when he took over most coaches wouldn't touch want to touch us. The views of our teeth gnashing fans and reality are two different viewpoints.
Before you say it, I'm not happy with mediocrity but I still believe he can get us to the next level. He has proven he will make changes when needed and 8 and 4 is acceptable this year, especially with our QB's being young this year..JMO

In my opinion yes. He could not be trusted to carry the ball the bulk that Jalen did. Not to mention Jaylin was very very good.

IMO it wasn't about the fumbling. It was about Jalen being the big TN prospect that was built to take the pounding of more plays. He was versatile and total package that was an outstanding pass blocker helping an OL that was not great at pass blocking. Also very good like you say. All those were more factors for me as to why Hurd started over Kamara. Durability to take more hits and still perform at high level and pass protection. Kamara was a guy you wanted to keep fresh and hit a worn out defense with holes. Kamara isn't someone that needs to take 30-40 hits a game. Needs to be 15-20 range.

In b4 ziti says our LBs must be trash cause Kelly made them look bad.

I said this a lil while ago, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if John Kelly became Tennessee's first Heisman Throphy winner.

The kid just has that it factor. I think he has a monster season this year. 1500+ yards rushing. 15 TDs.

First thing a potential coach looks at is the roster. Second thing is probably the pay day.

Would require more than just stats. Need to be winning at a high level with us in the national title run for an extended period of time. And before anyone says Lamar Jackson. He was in that title run for majority of season enough to be in spotlight putting up insane numbers that his competition couldn't take advantage of the late season tumble to over come his run for most of season

This ain't 2001. He ain't TS. Jalen ain't Jamal. Kamara ain't Cheese.

You talking about Kelly and Heisman is hogwash.

You can talk about that stat line for Kamara against A&M but reality is that he put it on the ground twice in that game and that is the reason why he was #2 and not #1.

😎😎😎😎😎

Keeping it real is one thing but you've gone nuclear today, did someone on here slap your sister?

The media just hasn't approved yet is one of the reason's

Not sure what y'all are attempting to say. I would guareentee you if you polled the majority of TN fanbase you would have 70-80 percent of them saying Kelly is a baller. And a very very small percentage questioning him.

Just because someone says hold up on Heisman level talk doesn't mean they don't think he is an outstanding back

Good post. I think he's a very good back but I do not consider him to be elite or a future heisman candidate.

I'm not sold that he can carry the ball 20 times a game against the big boys and put up the same type of numbers he did against the back half of or schedule.

Nothing outlandish about that stance in my opinion.

I believe we'll be right in the thick of the national title picture.
