When I get paid like Butch Jones and have about $8 mill coming my way for getting fired, let me know.

Butch Jones hasn't built up enough equity in his first 4 years in order to feel safe at 8-4. Not sure what is so extreme about that stance.

If he goes 8-4 listen to the gnashing of teeth that will be going on and tell me how safe he should feel.

Gnashing of teeth by some vocal fans on message boards and Twitter that lasts one week doesn't get coaches fired. If anything, I'd say the admins/AD will very gun shy about firing Butch barring a total disaster season even in 2018. Fans are still showing up to games, he's running a clean program, and we're winning bowl games/beating Florida and Georgia again.

You yourself have mentioned over and over how TPTB aren't committed to winning big (and you're right about that). So if that's true, why is Butch's job not safe at 8-4? I just don't see them wanting to take that sort of gamble. Not after 2008-2013.

How quickly fans forget the mediocrity this program fell to not too long ago. Please remind us which coach is was that brought us from 5-7 years and no bowl games and no NFL Draft picks to 9-4 with bowl wins and finally NFL Draft picks. This alone should be enough equity for him to survive a mediocre season.
For the record, I agree we should all want more than 8-4 but let’s not just sweep aside all Butch has done to get us where we are today.

Nice first post.

Because you have to extend him or fire him this year. It's never gonna be cheaper to fire him than it will be in December.

If he goes 8-4 and follows it up with 7-5 then he's getting fired the next year and it's more expensive and the roster is likely in worse shape. There's no guesswork involved in predicting a massive drop in ticket sales in that scenario. It's time to make a decision on Butch after this year.

It's time to either prove you're the coach to win here or time to move on. One more thing I could see happening is Butch going 8-4 and moving on to a lateral job on his own. At 8-4 that could be the best for both parties.

After 5 years you should have a season with a higher regular season win total than 8.

My opinion on Malone has been all over the place since his SR year of HS. Watching him play S he just didn't seem to have any heart. You could see the talent but not the refuse to lose attitude.

Since then I've softened my stance some and I really thought he looked like he was turning the corner last year. Still not physical or consistent enough but getting there.

I hope he continues to progress.

Agree with you on that. Hopefully he lands in a good situation with a coach that can help him grow. Has all the tools and high potential.

Leonard Fournette is elite. Jamal Lewis was elite. Bo Jackson was elite.

John Kelly to this point has been a really nice backup to two guys who were very very good but not elite.

Tossing around words like heisman and elite is where you go overboard.

I'm not hating on him. I'm keeping it real. Just because I don't think he is an elite back doesn't mean I think he's lame. Don't get it twisted.

Travis Stephens was a third stringer to Henry and Lewis. Same guy you say Kelly isn't on the level of. Sooooo yeah..... Being a backup means you're not elite now? Geuice was a backup to Fournette. Is he not elite or is he just solid by your account? Kamara was a backup to Hurd but NFL scouts have him borderline elite and the Texas A&M stat line kinda proves it. So your backup theory is hogwash dude.

I'm glad I'm drunk because this thread would drive me to drink the last few days.

Wasn't listed on the top 5 40 times board for non-lineman outside the locker room last fall. Kamara was. Byrd was by far the fastest with a sub 4.3.

Personally, I believe he gets to his top speed quickly and has excellent lateral movement. I just don't see the second gear.

Kelly is faster on topside than Kamara. That's not even nearly debatable. He's at second gear extremely fast. Running 21.5 mph in pads holding a football in getting it. I don't know what you want. Lol

So all these posts by people who know what they are talking about show that ziti doesn't know what he is talking about. Ever since ziti went nega it's all been downhill. Come back to the light side, ziti!

I'm just keeping it real.

When things are sour, the negs call me a sunshine pumper. In the off season, when this board drinks the koolaid I am seen as a nega.

John Kelly didn’t flinch when asked after Tuesday’s practice if any of Tennessee’s young defenders had impressed him so far this spring.

“Nigel,” Kelly said. “Yeah, Nigel.”

Sophomore safety Nigel Warrior has apparently popped Kelly a few times this spring, and Tennessee’s first-team running back said he’s thoroughly enjoying his battles with the son of former Vols and NFL star Dale Carter.

“Nigel, he be getting me sometimes,” Kelly said with a big grin. “He used to get me a little bit last season, too. I’m definitely expecting some big things from young Nigel.”

The extra time this spring is going to pay off for Warrior, IMO. Can't wait to see what he can do with more playing time this fall.

He runs alley like Jamaal Adams. Have to have less busts from him though. Kid closes on the ball with the best of them. Can't wait to see him this fall.

But man when he gets the mental part down he's gonna be special.

There aren't that many guys that just stand out during a game, just pop off the screen. He is one of them.

Like Tyler Byrd AT DB!! I think he can be a good WR, but he stands out and could be special at DB.

This ain't 2001. He ain't TS. Jalen ain't Jamal. Kamara ain't Cheese.

You talking about Kelly and Heisman is hogwash.

You can talk about that stat line for Kamara against A&M but reality is that he put it on the ground twice in that game and that is the reason why he was #2 and not #1.
