I would ask how you define spread offense. Spread offenses are utilized in all leagues including the NFL. Spread option offenses not so much. I played my college ball in the 80's so my knowledge tends to be limited to that era for in depth knowledge. I will say that properly run spread option offenses that have speed in the skill positions and can utilize space create nightmares for all but the fastest, most disciplined defenses. Pro defenses are fast enough, disciplined enough to cover and scheme the various options. All that being said I like the potential mismatches our offense can create when we are clicking.

Well, spread offense to me is a four Wide Out set interchanging TE and WR's. Spread you out to get you then in the middle. I think it can be a umbrella term a lot of times but that is my simple definition of it. What kind of offense or defense did you run in college?

Also I would say every team that is spread would be a option team of some fashion because of the RPO's everyone is using now.

DISCLAIMER: NOT TRYING TO START A FIGHT

Does JGs throwing motion seem a bit long to anyone else? IMO he's got a wind-up pitcher throw. In comparison, also IMO, QD has a catchers "get rid of the ball quickly" throw.

Just compare him to Byron Leftwich (aka tall Gary Coleman) and his delivery will seem sub compact. Then you will feel better about it.

What in the actual hell just happened in here? Mods?

Clean-up on aisle 36, please!

The more I read the more I think it's gonna be Dormady. At least initially. Long time til August though.

But Jones has already shown that he will go with the slower less talented QB who isn't a fit in his system during the Worley years. Jones wants a QB he can trust. It's why he was reluctant to play Dobbs even though he was the best fit from the moment he stepped on campus.

If JG wants the starting job then he will need to prove he can do all the little things. Dormady is going to have a leg up on him there having two more years experience in the system and actual playing time.

Let's not forget that Dobbs had a hard time hitting a stationary net during fall practice of Worley's senior year. Dobbs worked hard and got better as the season progressed.

Dobbs was a better option even if he had to throw left handed. That line sucked and Worley was in cement shoes.

But Dobbs didn't have the trust because Jones knew he was not accurate. So we played Worley.

QD will take the first snap of the season I think.

Link? I never heard butch say he didn't start the better player because of a redshirt promise. In fact I heard him say many times that Dobbs wasn't starting because he didn't believe he was ready.

He promised a redshirt freshman year, when that didn't happen he promised a redshirt sophomore year. That didn't work either. But that absolutely was the plan.

Trim the guys who can't get it done.

Bryant couldn't get on the defense when we were throwing mannequins on the field last year

Yeah strange, cause that kid is talented. Seen him play several times in HS. Maybe just couldn't get it mentally cause he's gifted, physically.

Additionally, you hardly ever if any hear Butch talk about a specific player's academic plan and progress. There are federal privacy laws against doing such, and he won't speak about something that he has promised a player or family. So with that being the plan, you weren't going to hear Butch talk about it.

Here is a link talking about why Dobbs didn't go in against Georgia when Worley was hurt. It is as clear as day that Butch wanted to redshirt Dobbs.

Yea, I don't dispute that. Some have said that Butch just didn't think Dobbs was ready (even though he played his freshmen year). All I am saying is that Butch wasn't going to publicly tell everyone that they wanted to redshirt Dobbs for academic reasons of that was indeed the case.

Shouldn't have redshirted him. I know he promised and all that but it was a mistake because of our roster, our line and our offensive system.

I think Dobbs family wanted him to get a redshirt was my understanding at the time.

Anyway - I have a different take on Butch than many on here. I think the man is very much open to changing and doing what he thinks will help us win (even though he clearly makes the wrong choices from time to time). I think he's changed a whole bunch since he's been here. I think he'll pick who he thinks is the best QB. Period.

Because it was so much better to have him for the two half seasons that weren't very important, than to have had him as a RS senior this year? Not sure I agree with that.

It may be a different view than many on here, but not all. I agree with you. On all accounts. :hi:

If OL doesn't improve or if Butch keeps running zone read offense, it doesn't matter at all who's better. Our zone read offense just can't work without an athletic qb to keep the defense honest. I just don't see butch changing his offense to match his players, so I'm predicting it's JG who gets the start.

Watch the offense as the season went on and Scott became more involved in game planning. Felt like a lot more variety the second half of the season.
