Is it a good time for an elite pass rushing DE? I honestly don't know.
By your own link, Barnett would have been the 3rd slowest guy at that years combine for guys under 260. Weight matters when comparing times.
Listen, it's an extremely small piece of the overall puzzle. Barnett will be fine and likely drafted middle of the 1st round. (Tampa or Miami would be good fits for him) I was hoping he would run a little better.
His broad and vertical will also be parts of that puzzle today.
If he is sick, he shouldn't have run.
For a guy who's athleticism is a concern to teams, coming in lighter and running slower than expected is not good anyway you spin it.
I don't know?
How many SEC QB's did Garrett get to with his ELITE 40 speed as compared to how many Barnett got to with his, what did you call it, not good speed?
If either one of them are chasing people down the field on a regular basis, then I might have to pick Garrett, but since that is not really what the position calls for, I'll go with the guy that is a proven commodity over the one that everyone is drooling over because he looks the part.
Wonder why it doesn't lead to production? He just isnt a great football player. Gym warrior tho

IDK. Barnett has chased guys 30 yards down the field for a tackle. Even a RB. I've not seen Garrett do that, granted I didn't watch all of Garrett's games. I have seen Garrett quit playing before the play was over. I've not seen that from Barnett.

He has 2 less sacks in 1 less year than Von Miller in college. Von Miller is doing ok.
I get why as Vol fans we do it, but to say he isn't productive just isn't true.
Is he not as productive as you would expect from someone with his measureable? I'm not sure I would disagree there.

Then why bring it up and state that it was horrible and act like DB was doomed to go undrafted. He will run a better time when he hasn't been sick and has had more time to work on his technique. You were the one acting like DB took a steaming dookie on the 40 yard dash course.
Exactly. It's like that scene from Heartbreak Ridge when all the young Marines try to smoke Gunny Highway to the tank but then Gunny Highway just motors on past them and keeps going. DB will not quit on a play until the whistle blows. MG.... quits on the reg as can be witnessed by his stats vs. SEC competition.
Because it was what many of us were watching live on tv.
As for the rest of your post, get a grip. No one said he would go undrafted.
If saying "Yikes, not a great time" = "taking a steaming dookie" on Barnett's 40 time than we might not be a good match for trying to have normal conversations about athletics.
Didn't JJ watt run a 4.8+? I've been saying Barnett will be a poor man's JJ Watt. Solidly built instead of long and lean like Garrett, constant motor. Smaller all around than Watt and obviously not as productive, but he'll be that type of player.
MG is undoubtedly a better athlete and has higher potential than DB. But athleticism isn't 100% of what makes a great football player, and DB clearly beats out MG when it comes to effort and motor and being smart enough to defense the run AND rush the passer. I think they'll both be great pros, DB just has to work harder, so he will.
You completely dismissed the fact that he had been sick the day before and just took his 40 time as if it wasn't affected. Also, 4.88 is not a bad 40 time for a DE. It is perfectly acceptable. It is a good time. Nobody expected DB to run a 4.5 or 4.6. You just went super negative and now are back pedaling trying to save face.
