Malone at the Combine

Malone can be a great #2 or #3

Lot of people saying my bengals will go for either barnett or Corey Davis at #9, really hope they grab barnett there and take malone in the 3rd or 4th to play opposite green. Could be a great pairing, also guys who play across from green have a knack for getting paid later, see Sanu and Marvin Jones. Then Barnett across from Dunlap would be filthy too. Oh and apparently we need a CB, might as well Cam too and dobbs to replace mccarron. Just load em up with Vols haha

Speed is great but there is a lot more too it than that. You got to be able to fight off blocks and you have to be able to run good routes and you have to consistently catch the football. Fighting off blocks is where he needs to improve the most and it is critical. GBO!!!!

True but I think the NFL rules favor the offense more so than College as they like high scoring games for better ratings...and more post scoring commercials.

I think the NFL is slowly trying to increase the game speed, or at least allow teams to play faster, but college football is all about offense. The NFL is all about the QB position. You can win a NC in college with a decent QB, but it's a whole lot harder to win a SB in the NFL with a decent QB. Both sports are geared towards offense in terms of officiating, but college CBs have more wiggly room to play hands on than NFL CBs do. I heard Mike Zimmer talk at the combine and he was explaining to people how it's really hard to judge DBs out of college because they basically have to come into the NFL and learn to play the NFL way.

It is not easy making it as a WR in the NFL. There is a lot of competition--a lot of good WRs in every training camp, both returning vets, draftees and free agents. Who was the former Vol wideout who played WR for the Raiders for a few years? He seemed on his way to a good career but then, surprisingly, got cut two or so years ago (three, maybe) and I think is out of football now. I'm not sure what happened to him--it wasn't an issue of age. I thought Justin Hunter would do well in the NFL with a couple of years under his belt--but the Titans released him after three years. He ended last season with the Bills, but wasn't starting. You have do well, get established and be productive. Hunter was never productive enough with the Titans--never had more than 20some catches, which is low, and if your catch totals are low you become expendable.

THIS all day. The NFL is a business and they measure productivity, at least the good teams do. If you're just a hang around type guy, mediocre productivity, show no signs of ever being more, you're gone. Had a friend who learned that the hard way when Ray Perkins was coaching in the NFL, thought he and Perkins were on great terms and he'd have a job for awhile. Cut the following season never to return to the NFL, the word was out he's just a name on the roster and they'll put a younger newer guy with potential in that slot the following year every time.

Hunter reminded me a lot of Kelly Washington's career. So athletic he became fragile. Not tough enough, but talented off the charts.

I think you are talking about Denarius Moore. He stayed in the doghouse at Oakland. His 2014 season pretty much ended his career. Moore got drafted by a really bad team, with really bad coaching, and he seemed to always be in trouble with Allen when he was HC. I think mentally Moore checked out and it cost him. He never was the same after his 2013 season. He also got injuried before the 2014 season and the Raiders wouldn't report what happened outside it was a knee and ankle injury.

Told you Malone was fast...

I thought he could do sub 4.4.
Still do.
Close.

I didn't know Ross was that damn fast though.

Go back and watch Mizzou game. On the post for a TD, Malone show outstanding separation speed from the defender

The crossing pattern against Florida was the kicker for me. He literally ran off and left everyone on that play.
I honestly didn't know he was that fast till that moment..

Nice.

Great time. Though a 4.39 would be better.

Man you sure do love the spotlight dont you? You act like you accomplished something by guessing his 40 time, then knock him down a peg by saying a 4.39 would be better. Sure it would be better because it's faster, but we all know the only reason you think it would be 'better' is because you would get to gloat about how right you were. Childish.

The only guys that ran faster than Malone are 4 inches shorter and 10+ lbs smaller.

Malone really improved this year and I think we project higher than the 4th round. However Mayock is not wrong about his ability to get off press coverage. if he could have done that his stats for the year would have been considerably higher and he would probably be looking at the high 2nd round.

He had Peterman as an option too and didn't give him a chance over those you named. Now Peterman is one of the top QBs in this draft, and we have WRs saying they didn't get the production they would've at other schools.

Sadly I don't think JG will get the shot he deserves at QB as Butch will go with the more senior, but not as talented option. One thing about Butch is that he has proven not to pick the right QB unless his hand is forced.

Don't disagree here...but, at that moment in time, when Peterman got into UF game, you have to admit that Jones would have been barbequed for leaving him in???

Don't know why people act surprised by Mayock's assessment. Beating press coverage has been an obvious problem for us the past two years.

Butch Jones / Mike Debord did a hell of job to slow down Kamara and Malone.

Don't forget they also had the best QB in the draft on the team and hid him from the gameplan until they fell behind 21 points every week.

We'll remember this era of Vols football as what could have been after guys like Kamara, Dobbs, and Malone ball out in the NFL.
