I feel like some of you dont understand what an AD does, and it seems like willful ignorance to me or at the very least, dramatically oversimplifying it to serve your argument.
In Curries time at K State, their yearly revenue has increased from about $50M per year (in 2010) to $85M per year (in 2016). Also in that time, their yearly expenses increased from $40M per year to $75M per year.

Do you want the best facilities in the SEC? Because thats how you get the best facilities in the SEC. No, they arent good enough already. Sports science is a constantly-evolving industry, and UT must keep up if they want to be relevant in college athletics. Do you want one of the biggest recruiting budgets in the nation? You make the money, then you spend it. Do you want the best coaches? Youd better be able to afford them.
This isnt a Currie is the best AD ever! post. Are there issues? Sure. Im not crazy about hiring a guy who is reportedly so divisive. And he doesnt have a long track record with regards to coaching hires for football and basketball. But making enough money to afford the best is a very good start. You can fail with a solid foundation, but you can't succeed without one.
