Don't hope

Hold yourself accountable and do it

For sure. It has to be a lifestyle change. It was easy when I was young because I worked at a gym.

I'm getting a bit older and the middle-aged paunch is just around the corner. Can already tell that the soreness is lasting way longer than it used to when I would lift after a prolonged time away from the gym.

Your first mistake was doing cross fit.

If you want to workout, just go to a gym and workout. If you want to do something that gets your heart racing; run, swim, bike, or do Tabata.

Cross Fit is built around the idea of doing complex lifts that one should do with as good of form as possible for a couple reps as fast as possible with terrible form. Horrible form + high speed = injuries

Meh. The risks are overblown. I've done it for a few years and my injuries are as serious and frequent as they were when I was just normally working out. That is to say, I've pulled a muscle a couple of times over the course of a few years. Mostly it was due to not warming up properly. The benefits, for me, have outweighed the risks. It is a fun, team oriented, and varied style of workout that keeps me motivated every day. Going to the gym to lift was not nearly as easy to stay motivated for me. And it always felt like a chore.

What happened to just working out?

You can't incessantly post on your FB and instagram about just "working out". Lame.

I seriously think someone will come up with a 1920s fitness program to sell the crossfit zealots when that empire finally collapses.

The old school triangle weights, one strap singlets, handlebar mustaches. Its the next step in the hipster evolution.

I lifted for the first time in about two years on Sunday. Still hobbling around. Just hoping that I can make it a consistent habit from now on. I had a good run of lifting regularly when I was 19-22 or so, then fell out of it. Have had multiple stretches since then where I'll go to the gym religiously for 3-4 months, then skip a week, and then slowly fizzle out.

Jobs will do that to a man.

The FF really cracks me up. Saban hires Weinke for what ever it is he hired him for....QC?....Analyst? and of course now, once again, TN can't do anything right...lol.

I personally can't understand how anyone can go through life that miserable...and actually think they are the ones that are ok.

From what I hear from those who I know who have experienced it they call their Cross Fit place literally a family. Everyone is there to help each other and motivate everyone positively which is definitely something to say in and of itself. Definitely helps with the "not being a chore" aspect.

Blackburn's public comments are...not a good look.

From Twitter:

"UT Chattanooga has been so kind to me! I Love UT Chattanooga. I've tried to give great effort, but I'm now impassioned to give more effort!"

Blackburn is who I wanted but this is immature.

Smh

Actually, I was being mostly sarcastic. But, I do agree with you. I will say that eating healthy and regular working out (lifting weights and running/walking) is actually the best way to go about it. 80% of losing weight (if that is your goal) is watching what you eat. Working out will just help speed it up. The problem with today's food culture is that it is so much more easy on the bank account to buy the less-healthy foods.

Got anyone one in here that trout fishes? I fished the Clinch and up in Townsend all the time when I lived in Knoxville....ever since I moved to South Carolina 5 years ago I haven't been at all. Anyone that lives in Carolina know any good spots? Trying to get back into it.

No it isn't. It's like they wake up each day in search of something new to bit** about. When they run out of things, they just revert back to the first thing and start all over again.

It's a way of life, man. I think I'd rather have fun and enjoy life though.

It's everywhere. And so much of it. Hardest part is floating through all of the bad parts to find the few good ones.

One big thing I very much take pride in is helping out small local business. When I get the ability I'm buying a big freezer and buying a 1-quarter cow to meet my meat needs. I love me some steak :).

When I was in Bosnia, I worked with an MI major for awhile, who was so paranoid about security, he lived in constant angst about "Serbs in the wire," so to speak. He was constantly looking over his shoulder, rewriting security plans, etc. He reminds me a little of the sky is falling crowd over in the FF.

How is that immature? He didn't take any shots at Tennessee that I can see.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars assistant Tony Sorrentino is “expected” to join Butch Jones’ staff at Tennessee, according to a report from FoxSports’ Bruce Feldman.

Sorrentino spent the past four seasons with the Jaguars, serving as an offensive assistant and quality control coach for the 2013-15 seasons before being promoted to assistant wide receivers coach last season.

New Jaguars coach Doug Marrone elected not to retain Sorrentino, and Feldman’s report claims the former NFL assistant will join Jones and Co. in Knoxville.

“SOURCE: #Tennessee expected to hire former #Jaguars assistant Tony Sorrentino to Vols staff,” Feldman tweeted.

It’s unclear what role Sorrentino will have at Tennessee, but his title likely won’t include wide receivers coach. The GoVols247 staff confirmed Tuesday that former Miami and Georgia assistant Kevin Beard — who's currently on Butch Davis' staff at Florida International — is expected to be named the Vols’ new wide receivers coach and given a two-year contract.

Why is that bad? Doesn't mention UTK at all and is not trashing UTK even backhandedly. If folks knew how he and coach Fulmer were treated in this process, you'd be embarrassed.
