I will get more on Currie later this week from my friend. Not going to matter since UT is run by incompetent egomaniacs. They hired a guy that fits in well.

I like the coaching style of Beard. I love his enthusiasm and telling it like it is without denigrating the person. Very much unlike the last a-hole that had the job. Hopefully we can look forward to improved recruiting and performance as a unit going forward.

I am much more positive about the direction of the football program. I have no issues with the staff now. If the coaches gel as a unit along with the players they are going to surprise some people this season. Would love to revise my 7-5 prediction, but want to see SP and some of August practices.

Pons is huge get. Not just as a high quality player, but also as a message to the recruiting world that Barnes is serious about this gig at UT. That roster is developing really well.

Anyone not named Blackburn was going to be crucified by the LOM.

Much ado about nothing IMO.

To me this guy is Blackburn with a better resume.

Wouldn't it be poetic if Butch turns it around, and start winning big, only to have thus dude piss him off, and him jump ship? That would be the most Tennessee outcome of all..

I'm more worried about the two getting along so well that Currie gives Butch some crazy 6 year extension plus a raise for another 8-4 season.

Truth be told, I have no idea how to judge how Currie will be, but I have decided to feign outrage to give the appearance that I am more qualified to judge such a matter than I actually am.

I suspect, this will make me look well informed.

lol I don't think we have to worry about Butch jumping to the NFL anytime this decade. Jury's still out on his ceiling here, but it's pretty clear he's not NFL material unless he's willing to be a position coach. He's a CFB guy through and through.

Now, if Currie decides to do him like Frank Martin and refuses to extend him after a 7-5 or 8-4 type of season, it really seems we might see Butch make a lateral or jump down to another P5 school. If Butch has a good 2017, but he and Currie don't get along well, we might have to worry about this kind of situation too.

The thing is, if we had a top tier AD, Butch making a lateral move wouldn't be a bad scenario for us. It would basically mean we have little to no financial restraints to get the best coach possible for UT while having a roster that, at worst, is good enough to be competitive in the SEC East. I don't think that's the case with Currie though.

My bold prediction is that he and Butch just might get along pretty well and Currie will be happy to keep Butch around as long as he's winning 8-9 games a season and filling the stands.

People have no idea what kind of guy Frank Martin is. He upgraded there.

If same happens here, we'll be happy.

Yep. On paper, Currie is a good hire, IMO. Definitely the most qualified of the three candidates But, time (and coaching hires) will tell.

I'm choosing to believe this until he proves otherwise. Besides, if football is healthy, everything will be fine.

This is great. Tried to give it multiple 'likes' but Freak is Scrooge and doesn't allow such excessive overt displays of appreciation.

I'm definitely the problem.

Dad went to Alabama. Grew up an Alabama fan. Born in November 1985 so really didn't understand much about football until 1995. Admitted to UT in 2004, became a UT fan and eventually twice an alum.

1995-2003: Alabama won 1 game.

2004-2016: Tennessee won 2 games.

My team is like 3-18 in this rivalry.

I have never ever said this before: Could you please root for Bama ?

From the FF;

Hubbs in response to Fulmer's feelings in reference to Currie's possible role in his firing.

"Yes, that will be a tough fence to mend. Fulmer spoke tonight at a fund raising event in Chattanooga. He was scheduled to meet the media before the event but cancelled doing the media stuff. Don't think he's ready to talk about things."

Even if pushing out Martin was the right move, Weber has been a "meh" hire for them at best. He's regressed the farther he's gotten from Martin's teams.

Upgrade is not the right term. At best, you can say Currie took a different situation and didn't bungle it completely. At worst you can say he hired a bad fit for his school who stood no chance of success once Martin's influence was gone from the program.
