I don't feel too strongly one way or the other about Currie. He checks the boxes, but has some question marks.
It seems like the people calling the shots mostly just wanted a guy who can keep us financially sound and in order while avoiding scandals. That's admittedly a very important part of the job. Maybe the most important part to University officials. It will be nice to not have to worry about being in a position where we don't have the funds to hire a competent coach again.
However, Curie's track record making hires and maintaining relationships with good coaches is spotty. And that's probably the most important thing to fans and for big time athletic success. Not sure I trust him to conduct a very good coaching search on his own.
Seems like a C+, B- type guy, which is about what we can expect from the University of Tennessee in most regards. Just gotta hope that over the next 1-3 years if/when it comes time to replace some of our current coaches that he either lucks out on his hires or gets some very good guidance from boosters and/or search firms.
People I know in K State's athletic department seem to like tension between him and Snyder seems to stem from his unwillingness to bend over backwards for the Snyder family.. I.e. Not guaranteeing Snyder's son will replace him as head coach.
He's pretty well respected as an AD in the big 12. The only k state fans I've seen annoyed by it are the loud ones on Twitter, but if People based everything off reactions on Twitter I can't imagine what they'd think about our fan base.
We are reversing roles then because I'm starting to dislike the hire more and more.

The hire isn't what frustrates me as much as it is how we got to this point and what I perceive to be true. Following this program for as long as I have I am pretty confident that my suspicions are accurate. This hire wasn't about winning. It was about appeasement and control. Per usual.
Better hope Butch has knocked his staff changes out of the park, and starts winning big soon. Then, hope he decides to stay and not jump to the NFL. This guy hiring a replacement for Butch scares me a little.
lol I don't think we have to worry about Butch jumping to the NFL anytime this decade. Jury's still out on his ceiling here, but it's pretty clear he's not NFL material unless he's willing to be a position coach. He's a CFB guy through and through.
Now, if Currie decides to do him like Frank Martin and refuses to extend him after a 7-5 or 8-4 type of season, it really seems we might see Butch make a lateral or jump down to another P5 school. If Butch has a good 2017, but he and Currie don't get along well, we might have to worry about this kind of situation too.
The thing is, if we had a top tier AD, Butch making a lateral move wouldn't be a bad scenario for us. It would basically mean we have little to no financial restraints to get the best coach possible for UT while having a roster that, at worst, is good enough to be competitive in the SEC East. I don't think that's the case with Currie though.
My bold prediction is that he and Butch just might get along pretty well and Currie will be happy to keep Butch around as long as he's winning 8-9 games a season and filling the stands.
