UT Grad - Check
Worked at UT - Check
On Staff for Nat'l Championship - Check
Wasn't around for Dooley Fiasco - Check
AD for a Power 5 Conference - Check
Voted AD of the Year - Check
More experience on a bigger stage than Blackburn or Fulmer - Check

As a Vol and a Tennessean, it's a solid hire IMHO.

Why are we booming on the Beard hire? It seems good to me (young, South Florida recruiting ties) but he has a thin resume with only a couple years of actual position coaching experience and he comes from FIU. Is it because Larry Scott specifically wanted him (worked together at Miami)?

He looks cool.

What supports the Title IX/Feminist narrative though? That's where I get lost.

Other than rampant speculation and a half-a$$ game of connect the dots, what else is there?

Please point me in the direction of actual information. If its there, I will gladly consider it but up until now I haven't seen a thing other than whispers, insinuations, and speculation.

All the vacancies that are being filled are open because of the Title 9 lawsuit.

Don't tell Ziti

The hire isn't what frustrates me as much as it is how we got to this point and what I perceive to be true. Following this program for as long as I have I am pretty confident that my suspicions are accurate. This hire wasn't about winning. It was about appeasement and control. Per usual.

Resume is thin, no doubt about that. But Check out some of his mic'd up videos on YouTube. I watched a couple videos and he had me off my couch and doing push-ups. He is energetic, smart, seemed like a good teacher of the position and played WR at a high level and if Scott endorses him, I'll take it. All around I think it's a great hire IMO.

Maybe, but that's fine with me. He handles that aspect, and the fan base and boosters can let him know when/if a coaching change needs to happen. It's not like hires are exclusively his decision. And it's not like he's not been involved in good hiring decisions in the past.

I watched the videos. He looks like he could still suit up and play. Hopefully it's a good hire. Hard to really value Scott's endorsement at this point, though. He also hasn't really proven anything.

I don't mind guys like ziti. He isn't saying it's a bad hire. He's just not sure he feels it's the best hire. That's fine by me. He's more embarrassed with the process.

It's the idiots who are complaining about the hire who have absolutely no clue about Currie. Hell for that matter, the same idiots have no clue about Blackburn either. They wanted him because he was a popular name.

Sometimes we get too caught up in resumes for assistant coaching hires imo.

It's a WR coach guys. He needs to be able to recruit studs and get ballers who want to play for him. The best WR coach we've had over there in a couple decades was Troop.

I do like the idea of giving the coordinators free reign to make hires, which seems to be happening. Regardless of Shoop or Scott's prowess, it makes sense to allow them to pick as many of their own guys as possible.

Just another step towards Butch getting out of his own way, doubling down on recruiting efforts (his best attribute), and hiring the best assistants possible.

Thanks Biker. I don't wanted to be lumped in with those Vol twitter morons. They are more embarrassing than our athletic department.

He does still look like he can play, he has some crazy good footwork still. And I do agree, it is hard to value. For one reason or another though I have a lot of hope and trust in Scott. I think he will surprise some people with his game planning and play calling.

Context. At the point they did so, he was a hot up and coming NFL coach. Many considered it to be a good thing at the time.

At the time I was very happy with the Kiffin hire, but I don't think he was a "hot up and coming NFL coach". He had just gotten fired after a horrible year.

Offseason hires:

Scott vs Debord
Warren vs Martinez
Hoke vs Stripling (changed role)
Wells vs Mahoney
Beard vs Azzani

How to you grade them? I think we upgraded at DB, OL and WR. DL and OC are a tough call for me but feel Scott will also be an elite closer at recruiting.

One thing is obvious. Much better recruiters here! Diversity also improved tremendously. The bald and white jokes can go away now.

Exhibit A: Alabama's AD transition.

Exhibit B: our AD transition.

In sum, I understand Ziti's frustration.

I don't think the boosters made this hire. I think their inability to agree on a hire led to Currie getting the nod.

You think Fulmer thinks this guy stood behind him or helped swing the ax?

You would have to ask Fulmer that question because anything else is just speculation.
