What would happen if everyone here chose to stay home and play for the Vols?

Jones let the message linger for a moment, then he showed the group a highlight video of recent Tennessee kids representing their state and balling out on Rocky Top.

“It gave me the chills,” 3-star Riverdale athlete Jarek Campbell said.

Gibbs offensive lineman Ollie Lane echoed a similar sentiment, saying, “It was pretty awesome.”

“We have really good talent here,” 4-star safety Brendon Harris, a Chattanooga native, explained. “I feel like if everybody stayed we could really show some people that this is what Tennessee is about.”

Said Harris: “I’d really like to see more in-state players stay at home and play where they’ve been born and raised. I’d really like to see that. (Tennessee) got the No. 1 player in the 2017 class, Trey Smith. That was huge. Now Cade Mays, me being really good friends with Alontae (Taylor) and him committing here, I really like all that.”

“It’s really important,” 2018 receiver commit Alontae Taylor said. “Coach Jones was just telling us that, ‘You know Florida is going to win with Florida boys. Georgia is going to win with Georgia boys. And at Tennessee, we’re trying to win with Tennessee boys. We’re trying to fill up the roster with Tennessee boys.’

“I mean, of course we’ll go out and recruit (elsewhere), but we want those in-state guys to stay home. Like Jones was talking about, you have to think about life after football. You want to be able to pick up a job in Tennessee by playing for your home state. It was really big.”

“Saturday was about just trying to get the mid-state, West Tennessee and Tennessee kids in general to realize where their home is,” Mays said.

But Malone hasn’t received too much hype heading into the NFL draft, perhaps due to being overshadowed in Tennessee’s run-heavy offense. However, former college football and NFL scout Chris Landry is high on the junior and believes he could be a draft day steal.

“Tennessee WR Josh Malone shows good patience in setting up defenders with crafty moves at the top of his routes,” Landry writes. “He runs past defenders with ease and can catch out of frame. In 2016, Malone hauled in 50 passes and turned them into 972 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns.”

Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett is seen as a likely No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft, but NFL.com draft analyst Bucky Brooks believes that Tennessee’s Derek Barnett might be the better pass rusher.

“It’s well-established that Texas A&M’s Myles Garrett is viewed as the top pass rusher in the draft, but Tennessee’s Derek Barnett definitely deserves consideration for the honor after terrorizing the SEC as a destructive force off the edge for three seasons,” Brooks said. “In fact, you could make the argument that Barnett should own the No. 1 spot at the position after wreaking havoc on SEC foes as the Vols’ designated pass rusher.”

“Joey Bosa displayed similar traits and we questioned whether he could sustain his play as a pro,” Brooks said. “Yet he claimed the defensive tookie of the year award with a blue-collar game built on grit, hustle and technique.

“With Barnett showing nearly identical skills, I believe the football world should pay closer attention to the best football player that no one is talking about.”

Morrison would be a good get. He would also hire Fulmer imo. With the panthers Morrison handled no personel for the football team only handled money side and was well thought of. Imo he would be the perfect guy to bring Phil in to assist with coaching hires ect. Morrison is a home run who knows a lot of people in football.

Therefore, it will be someone like the assistant AD from Ole Miss.

Stuff on twitter that Brice is out at 247. Is it true?

Yup. I'm cancelling. Can't stand Rucker and Ryan is a wimp. Sounds like the downfall started with the Haney article.

"Lucky said... (original post)
This is very typical of the type of behavior we have dealt with the past month. A man gets a lot of courage behind a keyboard and/or after 10:00 at night.
Again, I have no personal and professional issues with John. I treated him well during his time at 247 -- certainly much better than he treated our team. He didn't like it at 247 and that's fine, but there's a professional way to handle things."

Hi everyone. I haven't ever been on the boards much, but I just wanted to clarify a couple of things on behalf of my husband.
First and foremost, the 247 govols team is incredible, and I encourage you all to hang in there and support them as they go through this. They are a great group of guys, and some of John's closest friends. They will continue to deliver, I'm sure of that. Don't give up on the site and on them.
While I've sat in the back seat and watched this play out, I've not agreed with many of the ways that things have been handled. I am naturally a very private person, so I've kind of just sat back and tried to be supportive however I can. However, lines like "A man gets a lot of courage behind a keyboard and/or after 10:00 at night" walk all over me. Most sportswriters in this industry are late night people, and anyone who knows John knows that he writes at night often because he is so busy during the days. I'm not exactly sure what that line meant, but it's those types of things that are unnecessary. I've already called John this morning about his Twitter header... because that's the type of thing that is unnecessary as well.
In all reality, though, these past few months have been really hard on both John and I personally. He has dealt with some health issues on and off for the past few years, and his drive to work and be competitive in what has become an increasingly difficult industry and environment have really taken a toll. It's just time for him to take a step back for a while and reevaluate what's important in life.
Thank you all for your support, and again, please remember the guys that ARE still here. This is their passion and their livelihood.
Take care,
Jessica Brice"

This is worse than parents of recruits being on here. Lol

Wow I knew he was pissed about the Haney stuff but didn't realize it was that bad. This confirms that this effected their performance and ability to get info as we suspected. For him to go this far to want out of his deal Butch and Co clearly had major issues with 247
