At least she pays attention to sports. Dearstone was clueless.

She does a great job with practice reports on sports talk during the season.

Not trying to be heartless about Doc's personal problem dealing with the loss of his son, but that was so true. His defense of Holly and even Pat as she declined as a coach was ridiculous. I had to stop listening to the show the last few years.

I know it's overly simplistic, but I've never understood why, with 22 positions between offense and defense, you couldn't employ the model of taking one person to fill every spot slot each cycle (5 OL, 4 DL, etc..). You'd still have 3 spots open to fill positions that open up or to give to that rare specialist that warrants a scholarship (sorry, Volatil!).

Then, theoretically, barring horrifically bad luck (like we had last year) you'd always be between 2-4 deep at every position (2-3 deep at positions where you've had season-ending injuries or defections). It's always confused me how we get into a position where we need, for instance, 3 running backs in one class...seems that sort of scenario is going to strain other position groups at some point.

That sounds simple but attrition takes care of that plan. You have to recruit to the needs in each class to build depth. The OL and DL positions require plenty of bodies, hopefully spread out evenly in each class, because of injuries. Just take our position on RB's this year, attrition killed us there. Can't plan for guys to quit like our RB's did and others to leave early. It's all a crap shoot anyway :crazy:

Not that I buy it, but has anyone been paying attention to the position rankings by ESPN? They have literally put us 10th or worse at every position they've 'analyzed'. Dead last in WR rankings while mysteriously putting FL at 2nd in the conf...

I was invited (by email) to send a message to our new Chancellor - this is what I sent:

Send a welcome message to Chancellor Davenport:
Welcome to Tennessee! I think you will love the University and all of the many people who make it special. You have some very important positions to fill which will influence what my Alma Mater will look like in the future. The University of Tennessee belongs to the people of Tennessee and all four of these positions have the opportunity to enhance Rocky Top. I was a student at UT and know how much that experience carried forward with me to all the people and places I've known. I was a Director of Development for another university and know how much relationships with donors and alumni mean. I played sports (not in college) and love the way they can unite a school, a town, a state, and a nation (or, in UT's case, VolNation) :) Please choose well - and lead us forward as a united University of Tennessee. I hope to meet you one day and look forward to shaking your hand.

I know tl/dr but just thought I'd share! :)

Mine simply said...

"Keep your head out of your ass and remember you're here for the University of Tennessee, not the other way around"

I thought it was one of my finer literary works of art.

#Auburn has hired Larry Porter as TE & H-backs coach/recruiting coordinator.

Who cares?

Them hyping us last off-season did nothing to help us during the season. Them burying this off-season won't matter either.

Stop with the whining.

I don't think he was whining. I took it as though he felt it was ridiculous. You seemed to miss his point of them over valuing Florida's WR's while denigrating ours.

dingdingdingding. I guess if you arent making ridiculous statements about player rankings or who the heisman is going to be a year from now its just whining.
