Walt Wells Charged with DUI in 2016 (merged)

What a terrible human being. Let's all join together to condemn him.

I think VN exhausted all it's condemning on all sides during yesterday's great Butch Jones and Team Chaplain politics/religion/football thread. (sarcasm...I'm joking...don't flame me)

I have not read the whole thread but this is from the article:

"Wells pleaded guilty to reckless driving in Knox County General Sessions Court on Aug. 25, a week before the season opener against Appalachian State. The DUI charge was dismissed."

Most likely the dimwit Hyams saw the Oregon OCs DUI firing and resignation was getting air time on ESPN so he had to play goody goody and try and get his 5 minutes of fame with an old story --- probably trying to ruffle some feathers and get media clowns asking stuff like 'why does Oregon and USC fire drinkers but not UT" blah blah blah

Phil Kaplan wrote article. Hyams would have written it this coming Fall.

LOL...What does what I would do have to do with anything?

Yes, this is a public University, as such they are public sector employees paid, in some part, by the tax payers. This is information that should be known. Absolutely.

How it gets done is really tangential to the rest of this, but it should be done as a matter of policy. I'm aware it's not, and the University works it concert with local authorities to keep many things like this quiet.

If it had been a student-athlete, would it not have been all over the news? Why should a coach be treated differently? In fact, the coach should be held to a higher standard than the athlete.

Amen!

He was allowed to plead the charge down which in Knox generally means that it was a first offense which didn't involve an accident. This is VN once again making a big deal out of nothing.

I ask all of you - if it were you, your child, your spouse, your parent, your sister, your brother .... would you expect them to be fired, lose their job, shamed in public?

And concerning reporting this because so and so is a public sector employee - you do realize that the State of Tennessee hires many folks in all kinds of positions - do you suggest they also report if a construction worker, a road worker, a secretary in an office, a health care employee in a public health department ... does something that you consider wrong?

These are all private individuals, just like you and me.

Sorry if I missed your blue font.

Using the same logic, why don't we have a forum thread when the state hires a new road worker? Why is there no presser when the state hires a new accountant?

Why does Butch get slammed when the team loses a game but no one publicly slams the secretary when she walks from a copier rather than reloading the paper tray?

There is a reason why some jobs are "high profile" jobs.

I'm certain that this is over the top hilarious, but I have no idea what you're talking about.

I gave you a like anyway. Wasn't that the point?

What I live for. Google contrarian view for the sake of being contrary, or state a popular viewpoint and wait for your brother-in- law to do his act. Last two days you've pulled your pants down and streaked up many a plate glass window seemingly in search of a fight. A female version of our favorite drama king could inspire such a reaction...so I asked the question. :hi: Hope it gets better for you...seriously.

There was no blue font because I meant what I said.

I don't agree that just because someone is in a high profile job or a celebrity of some sort that everything about them should be reported on by the media.

They are also private citizens and deserve the same respect one would expect of themselves in the same situation.

Would you expect them to?

I could see it under the right circumstances in regards to their employment. It sounds like UT decided to take some measures on their end unless we are to believe that was all for show.

The "shamed" end of it is kinda silly considering that would get printed in the local paper regardless of whether a story was written about it.

I'm curious as to the level of rage this would have brought up had there been a story and statement from UT when it happened.

So you feel UT overstepped it's bounds as the employer.

BS and you should know that! The media has access to public records according to the open records law. Universities must disclose if information is requested. You act as though UT should have scheduled a press conference to announce it.

Arrest records are public for everyone. If they don't want all the aspects that come with a high profile job, don't take the job.

Well what goes in the record?

The conviction on this record will be reckless driving. His arrest record will always show an arrest for DUI. You did say charge.

If the charge had been RD from the start, it would have been a traffic ticket and not a physical arrest, and therefore would be public record.

So you say? The concern is much appreciated....I guess.
