I think having a massive collective chip on it's shoulder is exactly what this team needs to succeed next year. They sure didn't deal well with the championship expectations last season. Too many got the big head syndrome, and I think a few pressed too hard.

It's standard coachspeak, and there is nothing wrong with it, generally. The problem was the context in which Jones used it (a discussion regarding Tennessee's recruiting being down). It made it sound like he was making excuses or living in a weird fantasy land where everything is peachy. I doubt that's the case, and I'm sure Jones was just praising his new players, but in a conference full of rabid fanbases looking at every opportunity to pounce, such statements are bound to be construed in the negative.

Not all bama fans are jerks. Dang it.

My son just opened his door and hit the truck next to us. It has Bama plates and a Bama sticker.

I get out and he is wearing a Bama hat. He sees my Tennessee sweatshirt and says you are an SEC guy, we are all good here. No worries.

Florida is gonna fill up with highly ranked guys every year because of their location. But it seems to me like Miami and FSU are picking who they want and UF is getting what falls to them.

1 top 100 player is very down for Florida. Their last 2-3 years recruiting has/will really help us. Talent gap has closed quickly

Uga had a nice class though. If Kirby doesn't pull off a better season though that may start to impact their 2018 class

A lot of people have talked about how Tom Herman basically said the same thing as Butch. The only real difference is that Herman's quote can't really be broken down and quoted into ~50 characters, allowing space for a mocking message to be entered in a tweet along with the quote.

I just wish Butch would speak off the cuff a bit more instead of going the catchphrase route at every opportunity.


It's not that what he says bothers me, really. It's that trying to force his message and catchy slogans either gives the perception that he lacks the awareness to understand how his words will be taken or that he's incapable of speaking frankly and showing his real personality.


In the pst we've heard recruits rave about how much they love Butch (even the ones who decide on other schools). So we know he must have some personality. I wish he'd just let it shine through a bit more often.

The problem with that rational is that they don't even include the full quote. Not even a full sentence of the quote. It's blatantly deceiving if not dishonest. It's picking words from someone's quote and making it say what you want it to say.

I've come to accept it that that's the way the media operates. It's who they are. No integrity. But I'll never accept it that fans would do that to their own team. Most teams, certainly ours, have enough legitimate things to criticizes w/o fabricating stuff. I guess I don't understand what the word "fan" means. Or maybe those type don't.

They also took that 4 star wr that got busted at osu. their top guys are ones that were passed on. Not a good look.

Butch could get away with saying things like that if he would win something significant. If Saban, Meyer, or Jimbo said something like that it wouldn't draw criticism. When he says that stuff it comes across as excuse making. Not that I agree but that's the perception.

McElwain is making some questionable hires. His DB coach just left so he poached Corey Bell who was just hired by UCF last month. Then, he hires an OL coach from North Texas.

My take is that so many keep comparing CBJ to dooley regardless of the circumstances that you almost have to include dooley or the statement will be attacked mercilessly.

Better hope so. They're in the running for 3 5*s from their own state. Good news is 2 other 5*s have already committed elsewhere. I'm thinking Kirby has been making a LOT of promises over this last cycle to sign guys so that may impact future cycles in itself.

So if the quote from CBJ had been:
