Butch has to stop saying stuff like this, though. For someone who seemed to be so savvy when it comes to social media and rebuilding the image of the Tennessee brand, he is remarkably tone deaf when it comes to spinning mediocrity/outright failings into positives.

Yes, it's lame that the media jumps all over this stuff, but it is what it is. Unlike Harbaugh and Dabo and Les Miles, Butch doesn't get a pass when he says dumb things, because there's no personality behind the dumb things that people can gravitate towards. It's just constant bizarre cliches and Chicken Soup for the Head Coach's Soul inanities.

Butch is never going to bash or talk down about his players. I respect that. And I also want kids with great heart. Any sane person should understand that statement. It is beyond irritating. He's the ambassador of our program, and he's made us a national laughing stock twice now. That is Butch's problem. He should care, because boosters who can get him fired don't want the school that they dump millions into being pointed and laughed at coast to coast.

He's a mediocre writer and unable to come up with any analysis of consequence. Butch's quote doesn't bother me at all, I know what he's implying. The trouble we've had with our 5*s (PW & JH) has caused drama that distracts from the team unity he wants. The only people getting butthurt are the 'fans' that stake their ego on a college football team, so anything that could embarrass the team embarrasses them.
