*****NATIONAL SIGNING DAY on VolNation

I just don't think Butch is an above average coach... I think he is average and the things we have raved on about on him for 4 years... great recruiter... seems maybe not..
just my opinion.

So youre part of the problem. Got it.

True or false, top 15 class?

True or false, we got the #1 player in the country?

Continue to trash the program though, and act if there is something profound about getting called out for it.

So, since math is hard for you, I'm trashing the program? Sound logic sir.

You do know that there isn't a special prize for landing the top player on X list correct?

Trey Smith seems like a talented kid, but it's hard for me to get excited about any OL recruits since they will still be coached by Don Mahoney. Talent doesn't matter if the coach can't turn five offensive linemen into a functioning line

Outside of Smith we definitely aren't going big time in this class. It may end up being the worst class Jones has signed yet.

That said, it is still not a bad class.

If we don't win the East, you can tell us who to hire, why we didn't get him, and how bad the new coach (that we had to settle for) is.

From what i read yesterday in USAtoday, we are ranked 11th in 1 site and 13th in all the others. 11th to 13th.

So whats all the panic about? Trash talking the kids who actually chose to come play on the hill? Hand wringing and crap attitudes? Over a top 15 class? 1 kid picks us today as a surprise and its a top 10 class...and we landed an OT, hugely important position, that some have ranked as the NUMBER 1 OVERALL PLAYER?!?! When is the last time we landed that? I dont remember unless Peyton was...it amazes me you negas trash our team like you do...as if recruits dont read what you post. YOU GUYS WHO TRASH US SUCK.

GO VOLS. VFL. HUBANegas

McKenzie?

Bryce Brown?

Both rated as #1 player depending on the site.

Hes not great and not bad

Hes a good recruiter

He had lots of help from legacy players

When they interviewed John Kelly, he said McKenzie was probably his best recruiter.

Butch wont be here much longer

It is a reasonable expectation (based on needed trajectory and not teams) that we win the East this year.

If Butch is to go, we are back to that daunting question of who can we get. I am not suggesting that we start a list publicly before the season ends. However, that (coach) signing day may be more important than today.

Personally, I hope Butch wins the East and gets the program back on track with reasonable expectations.

He played youth ball at East Brainerd. Heckuva drive from Franklin.

Went to Highschool at Battleground academy in Franklin, Tennessee, which is where he lives now.....3 hours from Knoxville. Heckuva drive indeed.

We will just disagree on what the definition of "not a bad class" is for Tennessee. I don't get paid to decide who to hire. I never make suggestions I only talk about things that have actually happened. I don't speculate.

What's amazing is all I've heard recently is how much Florida's class sucks, McElwain's lazy, can't get anybody to commit there this year and even though our class doesn't meet expectations this year, at least it ain't Florida's......well, Florida's class just finished two spots higher than us according to 247 despite having 7 fewer players in the class. Ugh.

We have a handful of nice players in this class, just not enough. Just lost ground with our two biggest East rivals with SCar nipping at our heels. Not good.

No, a lot of these kids have very average offer lists as well, and we are being outpaced by half the league. It's not a good class any way you slice it. The 2 classes before this one were very solid, but not this one. That's not an agenda, that's looking at things objectively.

I was so excited to get the likes of Hurd, Kongbo, P. Williams, and a few other "5 stars". They make us feel better, but it doesn't mean they will be great. It goes back to player development, unfortunately I haven't seen much out of the Vols staff to this point with that critical aspect of coaching. THAT is what concerns me the most with CBJ. OR Maybe he just gets all the wrong 5*'s lol

Well thought out. I'm tired of people talking about 5* players being a "bust" they are only a bust if they weren't coached properly.

Determining the quality of a signing class is based on nothing but speculation.

Perhaps we will disagree what the definition of speculation is as well.

16th after we signed 28 which I believe is more than all other schools and tied with Maryland. I guess we are now a quantity over quality school.

Only other in top 15 with more was Michigan with 29 and they finished #4

Notre Dame had only 20 and finished #11

Ohio State had only 21 and finished #2( thats quality over quantity)

Is it a bad time to bring up that Dooley had 2 recruiting classes better than this and with fewer players?

Math and numbers generally win out. But I am certainly willing to come back here in 2 years and revisit the subject once the hard data backs up the rankings.
