They don't make less because they are illegal. They make less because of the type of jobs they perform. Truth is whether we want to admit it or not, they are a drain on our economy. People making $15 or less don't pay taxes, at least significant taxes. Their cost in the form of education and medical care for their families and other things outweighs what they pay in taxes.

Now am I totally against immigration? Absolutely not. But my contention is if you totally open the borders as Knewt suggest, it would be a flood of epic proportions that would completely destroy our economy. Because after a point you saturate the work force with this type of labor and you're stuck paying for their medical care, food, housing, and education. You can't simply send them home.

There's some truth to that, but my point was I think that they're making less as illegals because I think a lot of times they're off the books so nothing regulates what they're paid. That's why I think dealing with problem employers is so important.

I wasn't implying they're coming in as business analysts, IT guys, and engineers.

Based on this post you're a criminal who uses personal greed to justify your illegal activities. My guess is that if you didn't have access to illegal labor you'd have to up the wages you offer and you'd soon be able to fully staff with legal labor.

lol the IRS disagrees. come work with us one week. if you can hang I will give you a seat in my truck and pay you what you're worth. same offer goes to everyone.

I realize the point you were making. I own my own business and hire a lot of skilled and unskilled labor. My guys range from $8.00/hr up to $20.00/hr. I hire carpenters, technicians, and welders as well as sweep up guys (mostly high school kids after school). If one of my guys has kids, he pays virtually zero income tax. Obviously he has SS and medicare taken out and I have my contribution to that as well. All mine are citizens.

I respect the Mexican people and the vast majority come here for the opportunity to better themselves and provide for their families. I have tried to incorporate them into my small workforce but due to the unique nature of my business, it has proven difficult to integrate them into the business. I even hired an electrical engineer that was born in Mexico but was a citizen and was educated in the US but it didn't work because of the communication gap and he spoke pretty good English (he also thought he new more about my business than I did but that was a product of him being an engineer :)).

I am all for controlled and managed legal immigration but simply opening the flood gates would be disastrous IMO and quickly bankrupt this country. IMO

Exactly..subs used to be able to make a really good living.

This is true. Legal or illegal, Mexicans, and other south American immigrants, are mostly hard working and dependable people that perform work that many Americans refuse to do. I've witnessed it first hand.

That's fair, and I would agree with a lot of it.

It also opens up discussions about problems with the tax code.

Personally, I think it's a ridiculously complicated mess filled with loop holes and payoffs. I would love to see it simplified, as well as set up to where everybody is kicking in something.

(Of course the other side of that argument is having a government that doesn't constantly flush billions down the drain on pork, politically motivated favors, BS military spending, etc).

I'm in 100% agreement! I am all for a flat tax of say 10% with no deductions. If you make a dollar, you pay 10 cents. If you make $1,000,000, you pay $100 grand. Simplifies everything. Put a lot of accountants out of business though.

I'd rather slash the income taxes and raise the vice taxes. If you want to smoke weed, drink alcohol (my vice of choice), smoke tobacco, drink soda, eat fast food, fine by me, but you should pay for it.

Im all for a national sales tax and NO income tax. Let the debates!

Emailed my Congressman 10 years ago about this very thing.

Criminals pay taxes

One can control the amount of taxes spent

Illegal immigrants pay taxes

Tourists pay taxes

No tax on food, medicine, and essentials.

Eliminating the IRS saves the US hundreds of millions of dollars. There has to be a regulatory agency but they don't have to track down individuals which is time consuming and not cost effective.

His response was "I'm all for it." Said there were talks about then but no action. Unfortunately our lawmakers are more concerned with blocking anything the other party offers and not focused on their constituents.

The following states do not have a state income tax:

•Alaska (No Sales Tax)
•Florida (6% Sales Tax)
•Nevada (6.85% Sales Tax)
•Tennessee (7% Sales Tax)
•Texas (6.25% Sales Tax)
•Washington (6.5% Sales Tax)
•Wyoming (4% Sales Tax)
•South Dakota (4% Sales Tax)
•New Hampshire (No Sales Tax)

I would be in favor of a 10% national sales tax. You could virtually eliminate the IRS and you would benefit from all of the money that foreign tourists spend in our country.

These are all many arguments for it in a nutshell. You would still have to have an IRS to collect and keep track of the sales tax coming in but it would be about 90% smaller. No worry about people hiding income, loopholes etc. Its too perfect to ever be instituted.

There's also city/county sales tax in Florida. 1.1% for Duval(Jacksonville), for example.

I don't think you could tax many groceries at that level, otherwise you'd really hurt people just trying to feed their families. I will say that Chicago has a 10% sales tax and I effing hate buying stuff there, but that's probably because I know my local prices are much lower.

The tax I hate paying the most is property taxes. My house payment nearly doubles every month because of my property taxes. If my job wasn't such a niche job, I'd be moving out of state.

If you didn't have an income tax you would have more money to spend on groceries. Of course a lot of food staples are not taxed or taxed at a reduced rate in a lot of states hence why you see two different sales tax lines on your receipt. No reason not to be able to do the same with a national tax.

I think most states with sales taxes exempt food purchases. Or at least groceries.

Exactly and to put it in a perspective a 70k job is putting about 15k into taxes, plus property, plus state or sales tax on everything purchased. That's insane. National sales tax takes away complicated/changing legislation, audits, etc.

Take away or reduce taxes on a list of goods such as bread, diapers, milk, eggs, etc to help all classes but really affect low to middle in a positive way. fully tax soda, alcohol, prepared food (restaurants), etc. Legalize weed and tax fully. Tourists and illegals will pay taxes and help counter any perceived loss. I wonder what the numbers would truly look like.
