They receive money less than or equal to athletes, so it's hard to say they're really paid. It's more of a cost of living stipend, not compensation. And some GA get less than 10k. I hate defending Bruin, but he's not so blatantly wrong THIS time as you make it out.

Let's talk about GA pay - FootballScoop
I'm just talking from personal experience. Some GAs get less than 10K, at schools that don't have the money for it. I know GAs, I've worked with GAs at schools way smaller than UT, and they live very comfortably.

Would never happen. Coaches can't be bought there. If that's suspected the whole thing shuts down. IMG has no affiliations outside of the players they recruit.

I don't think hes talking about buying coaches. If UT hired the former football director he would have good connections that could put UT in a favorable position to get recruits. Nothing illegal about that, right?

SIAD, If the proposal for a tenth on field coach goes through in April as expected what position do you think CBJ goes for? From what I read the option of hiring a 10th coach would be immediate.

I guess maybe a TE coach to allow Scott to completely focus on his OC duties. Not sure really.

Would likely need to be on defense IMO.
It's already 6-4 if you count Jones on the offensive side.

Phil won a NC and was in the running for a couple more...Johnny never even sniffed one.

But he did have Cut for OC and a bunch of guys that Rodney Garner recruited.

By mid-2000s a lot of the position coaches weren't cutting the mustard.

As for Johnny, he finished with 1 loss in 85 and 89, and most likely would have been in the championship in 90 had Chuck Webb not gotten hurt. So, I don't necessarily agree that he "never even sniffed" a championship.

I would hire an elite recruiter, who can hopefully coach a little bit...maybe help Thig at LB if he is staying on board.

Did we ever stretch the field with him? Seems like it was all underneath and behind the LOS

Well I'm hoping that Byrd can take the place of Malone in that aspect. Byrd was really really raw at WR so that's why I think he primarily stuck with jets, underneath.

And as for Gaulden... I'm really not sure. I have no guess for our secondary. I think warrior has the highest ceiling and Abernathy has the highest floor fwiw.

85 had two ties...so throw that one out.(But I don't care if they sniffed a NC or not, still my second favorite UT squad ever) Probably with Webb don't mean squat. I will give you 89, but I don't remember being in the convo for NC that year or not, but I'll give you that one. Either way Fulmer was way ahead in terms of UT success. I'm not doggin Johnny, he laid the groundwork that Fulmer capitalized on, but the argument was about hiring asst coaches, and who's style worked out better. You have to say Fulmers did, it produced much more consistent success over many more years

I just can't believe LSU hasn't named Mike VII yet. they've had plenty of time, known forever. their mascot selection search committee is insubordination at its finest. embarrassing.

Majors gets credit for Fulmer though being as Fulmer was one of his assistants. So by default, Majors gets credit for all of Fulmer's success. :)

I was more excited about hopefully starting a pipeline at IMG if we happened to hire Weinke. Would love to pull 2-3 guys a year from there.

That's an unrealistic pipe dream even if Weinke was hired as head coach.

IMG isn't even a pipeline for Florida State.
Those kids don't get steered. They come In with an idea of where they are going upon admittance

Will there even be a Mike VII

UT officials have been strongly informed by powerbrokers that this hire needs to be a “Tennessee person,” and there are three entities of great influence beyond President Dr. Joe DiPietro and Chancellor Beverly Davenport.

So for all the committee and firm talk, in this instance the biggest people involved are the Haslam family, Peyton Manning and Raja Jubran.

As one seven-figure donor told us this week, “Peyton’s going to have a lot of say in this.”

Yet also we were told, matter-of-factly, “Not enough people have UT in mind in this; too many people have their own self interests in mind.”

Still, a potential combination of Phillip Fulmer and David Blackburn remains the best-case-scenario for Tennessee --- and probably the scenario that gets the most done, short- and longterm for both UT athletics and campus-wide matters.

Blackburn had made clear to multiple people he would instantly return Fulmer into a role of prominence within the athletics department, and it has likewise been indicated from multiple sources this week that Fulmer would potentially add Blackburn into the fold --- perhaps as the No. 2 in his athletics cabinet. There are boosters strongly encouraging this chain of events, if Fulmer continues as the frontrunner.

And Fulmer believes he has the key support in the right places. Thus people this week saying the deal “was about done” and “all but done.”

Tennessee will interview at least some sitting athletics directors, and one prominent member of the search process still insisted this week, “If we go out and land a big name, fans won’t mind if it isn’t a Tennessee person.”

No, and while I agree that it couldn't hurt, I also don't think it would guarantee anything.

Very rarely would we attempt to stretch field with anyone for some reason. That needs to change ASAP.I only saw twice with Byrd. Texas AM last drive and then Q throwing him a bullet in one of those blowout games.

Clarity on this AD situation: The speculation is it's a combo package of Fulmer and Blackburn correct? One or both will share the AD duties? This stuff gets more confusing everyday!
