Great analogy....so in other words when they players were crappy they just needed another scheme and the team would have been good? Interesting. Our offensive scheme is good. And I think we have lots of offensive talent that fits our scheme. Potentially, a QB that fits great even.

Just about any scheme is good in college when you have good players running it. We lost our best QB, RB, and WR. The schemes production is not guaranteed.

The point being, changing the scheme with an OC bringing in a new scheme will not make us successful offensively next year. We got a scheme that works. We need our veteran offensive line to progress and stay healthy. We got a really good RB. We need a couple young WR's to progress and contribute. That is what we need to be successful next season. Has nothing to do with scheme.

And not all schemes are good just because you have talent. LSU scheme got a coach fired who had tons of talent.

Lost Peyton and Kent the year we won a national title.

Hopefully replacing Dobbs with a QB capable of making throws.

Malone wasn't a big loss until he balled out his junior year. No reason to think Byrd or Jennings can't do the same.

We return most of our offensive line and we signed a top 100 player at RB. No reason to think we will have a huge drop off running the ball.

It doesn't really matter, anything change that happens is gonna be criticized as another CBJ screwup by the LotM.

"we can't overcome our personnel losses without a genius qb coach that i don't have to google"

"this guy is awful. He is the RB coach at Utah State."

"This is a crucial year and we are promoting a guy who has never called plays."

Nobody is better at borrowing trouble than the LotM.

I'm not arguing to change the scheme. In fact, I would have preferred to hang on to DeBord over what we are looking at. I'm just not taking its success for granted after losing the biggest reason for its success in Dobbs.

I saw you showing a little despair in your posts and wanted to give you an opportunity to veer back to whatever the light side is calling itself. I don't think you could hack it in the LOTM.

I'm well aware that we won the NC after Peyton left (actually I think Kent left in 96 and Nash in 97). It's a nice outlier example, especially since I was a student at the time, but the fact is, the talent level on our team was extremely high that it could withstand those losses. Our talent is on the downturn now. Like most, I think our real hope next year is OL improvement and a hopefully great RB.

Zzzzz

Butch Jones has one season to get it right. Hope the moves he's making work out.

I don't read a wiki bio on Canales and determine that we are doomed. Nor do I believe that losing a senior class that was our lowest ranked in the Butch era will be the catastrophe that some think. Enough real problems going on with our football program that I don't need to borrow trouble.

I just hope that whoever is coaching DL next year... we put more emphasis on batting down passes at the LOS. So frustrating for offenses. Seems like that diminished greatly this year.

Yo

Thank you!

I'm not sure if this resonates to people not in the area or in state of Florida but he is getting far more credit than he should be

Most don't understand how IMG works. Most of the kids aren't there 3-4 years being developed. They are recruited there after they are already good to tell the truth.

I have no doubt Canales will be a good hire, he's experienced no doubt. It's just a meh hire. Cue the yawn emoji.
We felt the same about Debored, I'll play the wait and see game. I learned with some of the previous buddy hires not to get too uptight over what CBJ does, I have zero control over it, so no need to get bent about it.

This is how I feel. Much too early to burn mattresses but I guess the legion of the miserable need something new to b**ch about. I'll just sit back and watch y'all get your panties all waded up. There is too many unknowns to be pissed off about this hire.

Also, lol at Bruin stirring the pot. He is probably laughing his *** off while he is trolling y'all from his house in the Cayman Islands.

Who's worried about it? What will be will be.

But losing most of the main players in an offense that worked well doesn't mean that the next generation will automatically work. Tennessee essentially ran the scheme that Al Saunders implemented in the 80s for nearly 20 years. With some OCs and offensive players, like Cut and Peyton, it worked great. With Sanders and Rick Clausen, it sucked. Success isn't guaranteed just because the scheme is the same.

You know what would make it even harder to succeed? A brand new scheme.

Utah State assistant coach Mike Canalas hasn't been formally offered a job to accept by Butch Jones according to those close to Canalas. However, it's only a matter of time. Canalas, as we noted last week in the war room, has been the favorite for the job. He has had two interviews or meetings with the Jones and Vol offensive staff including a visit on Monday. We are told that second visit went well and Canalas left confident about his chances. We think Kevin O'Connell has been the other guy that's garnered the heaviest consideration but O'Connell's personal desire is to be in the NFL, even though right now he doesn't have any offers to be in the league as we understand it.

One interesting note on the timing of Canalas is that if he is hired and starts immediately then Vol quality control coach Walt Wells would have to come off the recruiting road unless there is another change on staff. The only way Wells can be on the road is if Jones doesn't have a complete full time staff. Now, it seems that they could hire Canalas and get around that rule by not having Canalas officially start until a later date.

He posted this around midnight so, SIAP.
