After reading some posts by LWS, I really think Fulmer as AD is the only possible move that may be able to win over all the boosters over time to re-unite TN. We need a TN boy to do it...check. Blackburn has some prominent boosters who are against him, it seems, due to him speaking up and heavily being against the Dooley hire, among other things...obviously, Blackburn was spot on with his assessment. I think Fulmer is the only one who can "rally the troops" and lead our athletic programs in the same direction. We shall see.
Why is it, uh oh? Barnes will likely only coach a few more years. We have no direct knowledge of how Fulmer will do with any hire. Just because Dickey hired Wade Houston does not mean that Fulmer will hire someone like that.
Pumpkin references will abound, also. It is exceptionally sad that our own fanbase will take the derogatory names that our rivals apply to our coaches and use them also. I just don't see how people could spew such hatred and profess to be a Tennessee fan.
Why speculate this far out? I hope he is here 5-7 years and all of our coaches perform well enough to keep their jobs.
If boosters were against DB because he was motivated to protect the program and stood his ground against a poor decision despite their influence, then I'm concerned about what happens with CPF at the helm.
Will CPF make a decision that goes against the majority, even if needed? If he does, how will he then handle the backlash? How would he handle talk about needing to exit the program (it will come with the first decision some don't agree with)?
I truly hope CPF is successful - he and UT deserve it IMO. I just wonder if the rewards outweigh the risks in this case.
Because so many people are wondering how "tough or loyal" he will be to coaches. Our baseball program sucks right and our facilities or one of the worst in the SEC. so people who are wondering how he will respond to tough decisions will likely get their chance sooner or later.
Has nothing to do with hoping they fail. Would love to be great in all sports. Especially being a UT employee.
Got it. I agree about our baseball facilities. I am still very surprised that Serrano has not done better here. Hopefully, he will turn the corner this year.
So with Thaxton on board and hopefully concliffe, are we done? Still going for another WR?
Don't we have to let someone go if we add 3 more?
No sense hiring a guy that boosters are against from the outset though, politics or not. That's a huge part of the job.I wanted Blackburn and it's a shame that petty politics about his opposition (rightly, as it turns out) to some boosters have apparently sunk that. But there's no doubting Fulmer loves UT and will fundraise like a madman.
I just wish our big money folks weren't such a good ol boys club.
