If it is fulmer, who is the first coach he has to make a decision on?

Serrano?
Holly?
Butch?

Probably Serrano. So we may get an early look how "cutthroat" he may or may not be.

After reading some posts by LWS, I really think Fulmer as AD is the only possible move that may be able to win over all the boosters over time to re-unite TN. We need a TN boy to do it...check. Blackburn has some prominent boosters who are against him, it seems, due to him speaking up and heavily being against the Dooley hire, among other things...obviously, Blackburn was spot on with his assessment. I think Fulmer is the only one who can "rally the troops" and lead our athletic programs in the same direction. We shall see.

If boosters were against DB because he was motivated to protect the program and stood his ground against a poor decision despite their influence, then I'm concerned about what happens with CPF at the helm.

Will CPF make a decision that goes against the majority, even if needed? If he does, how will he then handle the backlash? How would he handle talk about needing to exit the program (it will come with the first decision some don't agree with)?

I truly hope CPF is successful - he and UT deserve it IMO. I just wonder if the rewards outweigh the risks in this case.

Why is it, uh oh? Barnes will likely only coach a few more years. We have no direct knowledge of how Fulmer will do with any hire. Just because Dickey hired Wade Houston does not mean that Fulmer will hire someone like that.

I explained why in a previous post. Not going to rehash, but it has nothing to do with Dickey.

It's probably been stated before but I do believe the majority that hate Fulmer at AD are the same people that never liked him for how he took over the football program from Majors

Pumpkin references will abound, also. It is exceptionally sad that our own fanbase will take the derogatory names that our rivals apply to our coaches and use them also. I just don't see how people could spew such hatred and profess to be a Tennessee fan.

I really dislike a large portion of this fanbase.

Why speculate this far out? I hope he is here 5-7 years and all of our coaches perform well enough to keep their jobs.

Because so many people are wondering how "tough or loyal" he will be to coaches. Our baseball program sucks right and our facilities or one of the worst in the SEC. so people who are wondering how he will respond to tough decisions will likely get their chance sooner or later.

Has nothing to do with hoping they fail. Would love to be great in all sports. Especially being a UT employee.

Good questions that I don't know the answers to. I think UT deserves success again, too, and I would love to see Fulmer be the guy that leads us there.

If the info OGbaby posted from LWS is true, it explains why DB has not already been hired. There are some very vindictive UT supporters in the money ranks that would not forgive a perceived slight or traitorous act by DB when they were the ones that were dead wrong. That bunch was all hung up on wanting to bring Football Royalty Vince into their good ole boys club. One of the 'hired help' countering their (non)wisdom would not be taken lightly.

Got it. I agree about our baseball facilities. I am still very surprised that Serrano has not done better here. Hopefully, he will turn the corner this year.

I4Jay, you've asked a lot of posters why they prefer Weinke, rightly asserting that most of us are thinking as simple as:

1. Coached at IMG... connections.
2. Hey I know that guy! He won a Heisman.
3. Coached in the NFL

You seem to not be a fan, unless you are just calling out shallowness for kicks, so I'd like to hear your thoughts about why you would not be on board with the hire.

I think the biggest reason is because they have not taken advantage of the great JUCOs in TN, paired with missing several local-ish guys.

Time will tell tho.

I think Butch will make the hire that fits the staff best. Whether it's Weinke, Canales , O Connell or Durden. He won't hire just based on a name nor should he.

Curious to see how ADPF brings the boosters back into the fold who seemed to have lost interest in the school. That's probably just my perception though.

On Weinke, it's hard to overstate how big IMG is and how this would affect recruitintg, seems to have the experience to be a great qb coach as well.

I wanted Blackburn and it's a shame that petty politics about his opposition (rightly, as it turns out) to some boosters has apparently sunk that. But there's no doubting Fulmer loves UT and will fundraise like a madman.

I just wish our big money folks weren't such a good ol boys club.

How long does Holly remain safe? Being Pat's heir apparent only buys you so much safe time. She is going to need to start performing at a higher level. I get it that Pat is a once in a lifetime coach.

Went to the elite 8 last year. Has the number one recruiting class coming in.

So with Thaxton on board and hopefully concliffe, are we done? Still going for another WR?

Don't we have to let someone go if we add 3 more?

Could be. The staff wants another running back from everything I've read so if Etienne wants in, they fill find room. Also there is no way they turn away Ray if he decided to jump on board.

I think the Fulmer hire is retaliation to the BOTs embarrassment of bama hiring an AD the same day battle retires

No sense hiring a guy that boosters are against from the outset though, politics or not. That's a huge part of the job.
