What round will Josh Dobbs get drafted in, if at all?

I am a die hard Eagles fan. Fell.in love with Wilbur Montgomery, Harold Carmichael and Ron Jaworski, they made a Super Bowl and lost to them damn Raiders. Then came Randall Cunningham, Keith Byers, Keith Jackson, Jerome Brown and our main man Reggie White. Plus u had to love Buddy Ryan but they never quite got it done. Almost 4got about Andre Waters loved him, also. Those teams never made a Super Bowl or even a NFC championship game. Randall went to Minnesota and went off with Randy Moss and went 15-1 and choked in the 1st round of the playoffs.

I love Dobbs, hope he gets drafted and plays or at least gets 5 years and a pension but Randall was a different level than any QB until Cam. Some may say Vick, but I wouldn't, run 1st.Randall is the closest thing to Aaron Rogers, with more speed and not quite Rogers pocket presence. Dobbs is nowhere near that, maybe he can develop it, but it seems to me, u either have or u don't.

Some team we give Dobbs a chance, on the last day, my prediction 6th or 7th round. He deserves it. Top 5 in UT history, Manning, Condredge, Clausen, Dobbs and Martin, IMO
The comparisons of Dobbs being "just like Randall" are just as ridiculous as comparing Kamara with being Marshall 2.0.

Dobbs and Kamara are definitely special talents and don't need to be compared with anyone else to recognize it.

Truth be told, I did think of Randall Cunningham the first time or two I saw Dobbs hurdle and dive several yards to stretch out the ball for the score.

Just because I noticed those kinds of similarities doesn't mean I think he's exactly the same or reincarnated as him or something crazy lol. I don't think you were directing that at me, but I want to be clear just in case you thought I was saying they were exactly alike or something.

In my opinion, what matters most is what the players themselves actually accomplish. I believe they have plenty of potential to set and accomplish huge professional goals over the course of their careers.

Yeah, if I were them I wouldn't want to settle for being compared with someone else either. When your vision is greater than what's been done by anyone before, the limits imposed with comparisons to others are meaningless. At the end of the day, each man's vision is his own and no one else can choose it for him but him. No one else chooses your vision for you. You don't need anyone else's permission to be the best.

Obviously for the purposes of evaluating skill sets, strengths and weaknesses and other player attributes, using a comparison to another player to get an idea across can be helpful. I don't think that means that you're asserting they will achieve exactly what the other did or threaten their status as legends. Who knows, they could go on to eclipse those that came before them. It happens. Sometimes using a comparison to a player that someone is likely to recognize is an effective way to communicate certain skills, strengths and playing styles instead of pitting the two against each other where there has to be one that's better than the other.

Film study goes both ways. It's one thing to examine highlights it's another to look at play by play. The NFL, I assume will look at more than YouTube highlights of each game before selection. D4 forgets to watch all the film I'm afraid.

I do think Dobbs is special and has NFL potential and I am intrigued to watch his career play out. But for every Hail Mary miracle pass there's a Texas A&M OT interception. I don't think we got to see the best of team 120 and there will be many future surprises of greatness that we never expected.

Well said, Endzone79. You get a like for that one. There's a way to not throw the baby out with the bathwater. I think the balance you allude to is important too. By acknowledging strengths and skills, it's not denying there are areas that need improvement. It's just recognizing there's a strong foundation in place that could add an incredibly valuable asset to a franchise in need of an outstanding clutch competitor at the quarterback position in Josh Dobbs. Fair enough?

Some interesting draft related numbers as of the 2014 season.(all positions)

87% of first round selections playing five years or more.
80% of All Pro and Pro Bowl selections are from the first three rounds
50% of All Pro and Pro Bowl selections come from the first round
Setting the bar lower, nearly 70% of games started come from players drafted in the first three rounds

Of particular interest are those bits which show a PROFOUND correlation between being a very good (Pro Bowl) caliber player and being selected in the higher rounds.

Yes. Dobbs brings a lot to the table and NFL team circumstances will be much different than college. For one he won't be balancing aerospace classes with football and that will relieve a lot of time for him to work on his weak areas. He's tough and doesn't scare easily and he's a guy that finds success in anything he does. He's an accomplished student, athlete and even musician. I can barely work the tv remote lol!

As for the draft D4H has compiled he doesn't have Peppers, Reuben Foster, Quincy Wilson or Allen listed top 20. I have to think that at least two of those four, if not all, are top 20. Foster and Allen should go top 10-15.

I don't see him being an NFL QB. He may get drafted in the 4th or 5th round, but I don't see a starting qb. Maybe a career backup or a position change.

That's interesting Hndog609 and the way meaning should be inferred from statistics. It certainly appears to bode well for players drafted in the first 3 rounds. No argument here!

Endzone79, Yes, I found that list odd for what I believe to be the most glaring omission
(Derek Barnett).

It would not surprise me to see him go first round. Both New Orleans QB's are age 35 or more. Someone else already mentioned Titans which makes sense as well. Also, as dumb as this sounds, I wouldn't put it past the Cowboys to go after him. Romo will probably be traded, Sanchez has not really panned out anywhere he has been, and Prescott has carried them. Prescott and Dobbs have similar styles and toughness and Prescott needs a backup. My prediction is before round 2 is complete he will be taken.

My prediction is the Jets in the 2nd round. They seemingly take a QB every year in that round.

He's thrown a lot of them. Here's another one from a year ago. He threw it standing at his own 20 and then Malone caught it at about the 25 yard line on the other side of the field -- 55 yards down field right on a line where only the receiver could get it and it went for 75 yards and a Touchdown.

As you can see, it was while being pressured and he displayed big arm downfield accuracy while at the same time evading a would-be sack with his mobility. Makes it look easy, doesn't he?

Josh Dobbs owns all the tools for success in the NFL and he's proven he knows how to use them to win.

Yes. That was definitely a WOW throw.

I expect most NFL clubs to be blind but I think one team will see the potential in Josh and take him higher than anyone thinks.

I'm sticking with the prediction he goes in round 2 to the Jets.

Its like saying Kobe is the next Jordan. They might not be exactly the same. Kobe might not be as good as Jordan ultimately. But they are very similar and he's the closest we'll ever see to Jordan.

Same with my comps of Dobbs and Kamara to Cunningham and Faulk. I'm not saying you'll see the exact same player with the exact same level of success. Just that the style of plays are close and they'll be the closest we ever see to those players.

I've always maintained Dobbs is inconsistent. And that is a major weakness he needs to work on. But I also believe its possible to become more consistent with more experience and better coaching. In the NFL he won't have to worry about school anymore. For a dedicated student like him who took a major like Aerospace Engineering, just focusing on football should help him tremendously. All those little things like footwork and film study should improve.

I think we haven't seen the best of Dobbs. All we've seen are glimpses into his potential in those games he's gone off.

With the right coaching staff I think he can become more consistent and reach that potential he's flashed at Tennessee.

I have questions about all 4 that the combine hopefully will answer. With regard to Foster I like his film alot but he looks small. Almost like a DB in size. I want to see what he measures and weighs. If he's 5'11" 225, that might be a hurdle to NFL success. If he's 6'1" 240 as they claim then he will definitely be in my top 20.

With regard to Wilson and Allen I have questions about their athleticism. Neither looks explosive for their position. I want to see how they run at the combine. Can Quincy Wilson break 4.5? If he does he would go into my top 20. Does Jonathan Allen show that first step explosion in the first 10-20 yards that elite d-lineman have? I'll be interested to see that.

With regard to Peppers I don't know if he has the hips to play DB. He seems like a player without a position which is why he was a jack of all trades at Michigan. I'll be interested to see where he goes cause this is a strong draft at safety.

Hilarious, right? Look at that list and guess who posted this:

"You guys must not follow the NFL draft closely if you think McCaffrey has any chance to go before Fournette or even someone like Elijah Hood."

With more film study, my opinion changes. McCaffrey's junior tape was very impressive. Fournette's not so much. I haven't delved deep into Hood just yet.

Then the obvious question is why the hell make such a comment in the first place? It leaves you as someone with the approach of:

"I will berate others as having no idea what they're talking about while issuing statements subject to change once I think my prior statement made me look like I didn't know what I was talking about."

For instance you have flatly and repeatedly (with nary a caveat in sight) stated things like:

"Jonathan Allen is overrated and will be a complete bust in the NFL."

only to now say you want to see what happens at the combine? Seriously?

How does D4H have the time?

He does as much film study as an NFL scout, is a full time poster here, and I'm sure has to have a job to support himself.

And I didn't even factor in sleep and all the other basic daily functions of a human.

A truly remarkable human being we have posting with us. Incredibly reslient; never seen someone make so many wrong predictions, yet continue to keep making them and act like we all forgot.

Actually, that isn't a bad idea. Bringing in Dobbs to back up Mariota could give him time to learn the system and adapt his skill set. And if they decide to move him to WR, they could add a whole new dimension to their offense.

He was saying to do such with a first round pick....
