Saban hired Kiffin, who was untouchable and replaced him with Sarkisian...who is a 12 step disaster. Nobody better out there?

Kiffin was known to be one of the brightest offensive mind in the coaching ranks today. Sark wasn't far behind. Not a huge gamble IMO.

"One name to keep an eye on for a quality control spot is former Tennessee staffer Larry Knight. He was the outside linebackers coach at Georgia State this past season. Will obviously depend on his job status with other full time spots."

I'm not sure if I should like Canales or Weinke better. Honestly, how do any of you guys know? Our information seems pretty limited. Canales could be a certified quarterback coaching savant. None of us are inside coaching circles enough to make a true educated assessment.

This group is throwing around blind guesses based on a Heisman trophy and a couple previous jobs where we have no insight on their responsibilities or performance. Per usual, we know very little.

Like you said, Butch's previous staff hires are panning out pretty well. Let's see where this one goes.

Nice post, gave you a like for using the word "savant". :good!:

Kiffin was toxic and a guaranteed clash with Saban...and that guarantee was realized. Never dissed his playcalling and QB tutoring acumen. Just sayin, with all those brilliant minds out there just to be had apparently, why did he "settle" for these two with baggage?

Not surpising. Been at a few games toward end of year. Players liked him

It's been suggested that Z would have been gone already if there had been any takers.

Not going to find any for OC when his own mentor has passed him up twice. He has to realize he can't be too picky about it. Now he has to go anywhere willing and just do it or just try to be a HC straight from position coach route. I think the latter is his path. Great recruiter. Solid WR coach despite what some say. His crew was very solid this year. Relentless worker. I think he has HC qualities for sure. Play calling not so much. Some guys are like that.

Yep. FCS type HC job is most likely. Similar to Elder

I'm getting some insight on the negvols mind with the "expectations" thread in the FF

Yep I think he will be better HC than Elder. Elder is probably who Butch would have promoted to OC if he had chance this year and he were on staff. Elder seems more like one of those good coordinator/assistant types. I think G is another guy that will be a HC without being a play caller type.

Did it work for him? Very good chance he comes away with two rings.

Determined not to get point...you win. :hi:

No, I get your point, just see another side to it. Was it a risk to have to deal with all the negatives that is Kiffin? Sure. Was there a better offensive coordinator out there based just on QB development, schemeing, and play calling? Debatable. No winners, no losers just discussing.

I think some of you are overlooking the fact that Scott will give us an African American coordinator. I really think this helps with recruiting.

I'll always remember Kellin Winslow senior in an interview. He said he wouldn't let his son go to a school where there wasn't an African American in a higher position on the team. Either a head coach or at least a coordinator. He came out and said it on national TV. How many parents out there think it but never say it?

Did his son wonders. Perhaps he should examine the persons content of their character over the color of their skin.

Haha that's comedy considering the institutions do just exactly the opposite of what you said.

And you think kellen Winslow jr isn't or wasn't successful bc of a "soldier" rant or a motorcycle accident ... gtfoh please

It doesn't and won't matter.
It's been proven over and over kids will choose the schools that best gives them a chance to get the league.

I never said that. I personally think that Kellen has a mental disorder. And maybe his father should've looked into that before he shipped him to the most chaotic environment in the history of college athletics.
