There's a connection to Butch and this hire has been in the works before the rams fired fisher. I doubt he would have came with a large buyout tag so I'm not giving much thought to him being easily available.

It was well known for a while Fisher was out. So are you saying we had to pay a buyout or are you saying we didn't have to pay one since the staff was let go?

I'm saying that his buyout is irrelevant. Fisher getting fired may have been foreseen but Rock was there before Fisher iirc.

Anyone poo pooing this hire is just looking for something to complain about.

Again, to make myself clear, I am not crapping on this hire. Again, would Meyer, Harbaugh, Saban hire any of these people we're hearing? Would Saban hire an OC that has never called plays?

Are we feeling like Weinke is the hire?

You guys act like players can't improve and step up. Malone wasn't a loss until he all the sudden became a boss. Now he's not replaceable apparently.

We've got Byrd, Jennings and Smith coming back along with several young guys who can make an impact.

With Malone not elevating over DBs using his size for real I feel we can replace him with ease personally.

Would they hire a 20 year NFL vet? Uh yeah I think they would.

Would they hire a guy that's never called plays? Probably not but that has more to do with our HC and not with our admin.

I'm thinking one of Callaway, Williams, Johnson, or Murphy can become a go to guy next season even with losing Malone and potentially Byrd to defense. I have to give a lot of credit to Butch and Z for cutting the rotation down and allowing the best guys to get in a rythm. We don't need 6-7 guys anymore to play an entire game.

I will say this....I have a black helicopter theory on why we don't have an AD which would tie into all this but I'm not sure how crazy it sounds so I'm gonna wait before I share it here.

I think he would

Nah..he wouldn't. When/if Butch hires Scott it will be solely about continuity. Butch thinks he has a good offense coming back. He doesn't want to throw any real change at Q or JG. He wants them knowing what they are doing. I see the wisdom in that, but it is a gamble because of the I experience issue. What does Scott call when the game is on the line? Nobody freakin knows.

That last sentence can also be a positive.

Rock is legit. Any college football program would be lucky to have him. Scott has been around football long enough to call some plays. I really don't understand why everyone is up in arms over this. If we don't promote him we lose our best recruiter. Recruiting IS college football. Helfrich is known to be a horrible recruiter. There are national articles out describing how he can't recruit at a high level. On top of that, the last time Helfrich called plays was at Colorado. They were complete garbage during that span. So, I would love to know, what makes Helfrich a better candidate for OC over Scott?

Hey man..Im good with the Rock hire. That is a good hire regardless of how it came about.

Word on Canales interview yet?

Not many details at this point. It wasn't done till earlier this evening. Working to gather what we can. We believe that Canales spent time with staff as well as time with just Jones and Larry Scott like they did with Weinke.

He trusted his team leaders..understandable. The guys who he trusted to lead...let him and all of us down here.

What college kid wants to work harder? I just couldn't listen to my team leaders in this situation. I get it, you want your team leadership to have some say, but this is a HUGE decision he allowed players to influence. He was trying to do the right thing, I get it. However, the damage was done before the season even started imo

When you have a QB like Josh Dobbs you would think the leadership would be high. Guess it wasn't as good as CBJ thought and I'm sure he learned from it
