Everything I've seen is leading to PSU, however I was mainly talking about top 100 type players, not fringe 4*. I also think he's a good player like I said about Sterling, but I'm just making a point

You are correct. On this board nowadays, 4 stars are big fish tho.

Sure they can improve. To the level to replace Malone's production this year? I'm not seeing it at this point. Especially with an unknown offensive coaching staff.

I just don't take significant year to year player improvement for granted. If it happens, great, but a lot more goes into it than just passage of time.

We'll be run heavy next year. The OL should be a big strength, and we have multiple backs who can get it done. I'll be surprised if the offense is a problem.

Malone was not exactly Megatron. You act like Dobbs slung it for 4K this year and Malone caught them all. I would be more worried if we had a green RB or super young OLine.

Improvement by committee. Better pass protection, better passing qb and improving WR play is what I'm thinking. I'm not thinking we will have someone all of the sudden transform into Malone although I wouldn't rule it out. I think Byrd could do it for sure.

Who said it was?

The way I see it, the offense as a whole will produce, so why does it matter if one player doesn't make up for Malone's production? The young receivers have looked sharp in limited action. Doesn't seem like a group worth being worried about.

I know what you're trying to say but Florida hired Jim McElwain, LSU hired Oregeron, Georgia hired a coordinator, South Carolina hired a fired coach, etc. Do I think our admin sucks? Yes. Do I think that they go out and intentionally seek to hire a guy on the cheap every time? No. I don't. Given where our program was Butch was about as good as we could do.

The thought that we are gonna hire some great coach with a name is crazy. It's about timing now more than facilities and money. Everyone has money and facilities and everyone is taking gambles on coaches. It's just how it is.

Quoted for truth.

I'm not just talking about head coaches. Look at who we're thinking about hiring for OC, QB even the strength coach. I don't want to come across as trashing the new SC coach because he may be the best in the field. What I am saying is notice that all the names including the SC coach are coaches that have just been fired or make you scratch your head? Would Nick Saban seriously consider any of these guys? These are hires of convenience. We should be able to go pluck about anyone we want.

You guys act like players can't improve and step up. Malone wasn't a loss until he all the sudden became a boss. Now he's not replaceable apparently.

We've got Byrd, Jennings and Smith coming back along with several young guys who can make an impact.

Yes, I don't recall to many that expected Malone to explode this year. It seemed like Williams was talked about far more as the big play receiver for 2016.

You've got a point for everything outside of Gullickson. I think he was a big pull.

The strength coach doesn't meet your expectations? Really? A 20 year NFL vet not cut the mustard for UT?

I think we are looking at Scott for OC because that's who Butch wants.

I will say this....I have a black helicopter theory on why we don't have an AD which would tie into all this but I'm not sure how crazy it sounds so I'm gonna wait before I share it here.

Read the whole post Ziti, I said he may be great but it was an opportunity type hire. I may be totally wrong but it has the appearance of "Who just got fired we can go hire"?

It's all well and good until someone takes the run away. In the SEC, it's almost a certainty that someone will. That's when you need the talent at WR. You always need production there, even when the offense should potent.

Besides, it was strictly about whether WR will be as good next year. I just don't think they will, just like DE won't. Losing a player with significant talent there.

There's a connection to Butch and this hire has been in the works before the rams fired fisher. I doubt he would have came with a large buyout tag so I'm not giving much thought to him being easily available.

Also, making good hires is usually about timing now a days. Look at OSU and Meyer.

Look at UM and Harbaugh. He was on his way out at SF and they were firing their HC.

Yeah, Kiffin hadn't been recently fired when hired by Saban as his OC. Neither was Sark. But I see what your saying.
