Larry Scott at OC might be what everyone secretly wants

Well of course it's a back handed insult.... Who cares?

Quit trying to act like your so much more grown up than they are.. If you think they are such children, then what does that make you for arguing with them and "baiting" them as you put it...

wait so its ok for the constant backhanded insults but when i call them on it i'm worse offender? no way lol

So putting all your chips on a guy who has never called a play isn't? If it were going to go this direction it would have made sense to bump CZA. To me it feels like an attempt to keep Scott since he drew interest this past season. Remember he did the same with CZA last off season.

ok lets think about it like this.. if butch really only has 1 year more of leash, why would he completely overhaul the offense (think verbiage, new coaches getting used to the talent) if this is truly his last shot?? makes no sense and would be making his prospects for success and an extension here very low.

Rational actions are dumping coaches that don't perform and get guys that do. He did that with Shoop and he gets a pass because he beat Florida. Others have failed for years and are still here. The good ole boy system gets you fired just ask Miles. More time for what? B10 teams? He had the East gift wrapped and blew it coming off a bye. I didn't pull that but a lot of posters have simply because a few don't give butch forever.

Man you are on it tonight. Man this exactly what i have been saying all along. Why give him more time when he has all of his recruits he hasn't done anything with them.Face it south carolina And vandy were over matched with our talent and we lost its on coaching. And I dont think it will get better.

Scott will be fine calling plays, please relax man. He's plenty experienced, Debord was waxing the pool floor at Michigan when he was hired. I don't see a big difference here lol

that's the opposite of rational. rational thought, like i said before, would look at the true state of the program and know that 4 years isn't enough to tell and more harm would be done than good if butch was fired. i'm willing to give at least 1 if not 2 more years, then i don't have any qualm about moving on.

4 years was enough to win the east and all would be forgiven. The Vandy and SC losses are the reasons why a lot of people believe Butch isn't any better than he is now.

Unfortunately i agree he'll be here for the time you stated but can't we agree that it's weird that Butch isn't lobbying for Blackburn? I'd love to hear his reasoning

well if that other post about the absolute sh!tshow that is the current admin/ad situation is close to being true, i'd say butch has been clamoring for someone to be hired asap. i can guarantee you he'd rather have an ad in place sooner rather than later. also i'm sure butch is kinda walking on eggshells because if he barks up the wrong tree with no real ad support, he could be fired regardless of what happens on the field. really a messy situation

I'm not asking him to I just want a guy who knows how to call plays in college. Scott has not done that and that's troubling even if it's the same offense we've all seen. If nxt season is his final shot then why not role with CZA? He has been around Debord and would know more about it than a guy who's been here 1 yr.

scott took over miami and had them playing well despite their circumstances. their offense had new life. i think it says more about scott and less about cza. but cza hasn't exactly blown me away either. all anyone has heard about scott has been rave reviews. i'd rather have scott than someone trying to put in a completely different system and terminology

your right it's a big mess but he talks and talks about wanting people that want to be at Tennessee and how it's a
Privilege and destination. Why not lobby for a guy who wants the best for Tennessee and would more thAn likely help him in every way achieve that goal? It just doesent make sense that both our men's teams coaches are against Blackburn

Butch and CZA have been together a while now and you'd think he knows him pretty well. Evidently he doesn't trust CZA to get the job done if he really wants CLS.....

i'm leaning more towards scott making a very strong impression on butch

Reminds me of coach O and we know how that turned out.

Which makes me believe it's more of an attempt to keep him.

But again it's just my opinion

well if the admin is a joke and shambles, no big shot name will want to get on a ship with no real captain (athletic dept as a whole). i'd also bet that butch and barnes are privy to more info on blackburn than us piddly folk volnation. i've never seen either coach openly talk against blackburn so there's also that...

coach o was 100% redbull and dip (no literally thats all he ingested). by all accounts here and elsewhere, scott is pretty highly regarded for his football mind as well as his recruiting prowess

It's possible.. They are both supposed to be good recruiters but CLS is connected in Florida.. If it is CLS, hopefully he is more aggressive and less predictable..

I would have liked to have guys like Helfrich and Hoke but in the end they only buy you time until they get calls but you're right they won't come here. If they wanted more info why even lobby against it? Of course they aren't doing it publically that would be crazy.

I think it will be Scott and CZA will move on if someone will take him, otherwise he will be allowed to stay.

One has called plays the other has not.

Calling plays is not that freaking hard man! This guy isn't performing open heart surgery for the first time with no formal training. Can he remember plays? Can he read? Can he gameplan with the offensive staff? I think so. If its 3rd and inches should he throw the bomb? I think he would run a qb sneak or hb dive. It's not that freaking hard dude

Please stop giving Debord/Butch so much credit like they are some kind of genius play callers. They couldn't score on Appy, SC, or Vandy and there was a ton of luck that went into this season. Anyone should have been able to call plays with the talent we had this year. This was one of the most talented teams UT has ever had and we couldn't even make it to atl. Yeah the D was beyond banged up. But Debord/Butch was shut down by 2 of the worse teams on the conference

I forgot, who were all of the Vols to make all SEC this year. I remember preseason a lot of fans were saying TN should have anywhere from 7-10 all SEC and a few AA also. Post season I don't remember UT having all stars all over the field. Maybe Tenn wasn't as loaded as many thought.

There's exactly what I was looking for.

Helfrich hasn't called plays since Colorado. He wasn't very good! On top of that, he absolutely sucks as a recruiter.

I find it a little weird that everyone wants to make excuses against Jones every chance they get. They attribute success to debord or dobbs but at the same time make out Jones to be some micromanaging imbecile with an offensive philosophy that doesn't work. Last time I checked we put one of the most prolific offenses in the country on the field this past year. Blame Jones all you want for some of his late game decisions but his offense wasn't a problem, his offensive hire wasn't a problem either, his micromanaging or whatever approach he took to implementation and/or play calling also wasn't a problem.
