I am glad we didn't hire Charlie strong. But at the time he was a hot commodity. My question is how do you let him say no to you to stay at Louisville. Freaking Louisville. If we couldn't convince strong (which look how awful he turned out) then what makes anyone think we can hire a big time coach
I can't remember how many times I have posted this but we aren't going to get any better unless we get have a competent administration. I hope this new chancellor we have is he right one and I hope we get the right AD as well. Look at our football and both basketball programs. Until this university gets more serious about athletics this is what we have to get used too. Right now we have "program stabilizer" coaches that aren't even doing a great job at that. All this is starting to remind me of Dooley/Hamilton all over again.
UT takes its athletics very seriously. Any suggestion that we don't is nonsense. We might not be as obsessed as alabama, which struggled for years before it spent massively to hire Saban and has also been the biggest cheater in college football, but we take football, and every other sport, seriously. We are handicapped by being a state that has very few elite high-school athletes--probably fewer than any state in the SEC except MAYBE kentucky. Eighty or more percent of our recruits, all sports, come from other states: that is a serious disadvantage. UT also isn't exactly an elite academic institution, which can also be an advantage. Combine that with the fact that the SEC is a dog-eat-dog conference and titles don't come easily. Could we do better? Of course, there is always room for improvement in every aspect of athletics. But it has nothing to do with commitment by the university.
Administration needs to get this AD hire right. Where our basketball programs heading?I know our men's basketball program isn't Kentucky or anything but man alive.
The most hungriest fanbase...we are annoyed bc this administration have failed the fans. You guys remind me of an old TV commercial with, without a doubt, the ugliest little girl ever on Television. "It's Shake and Bake. And I helped."
You all expect there is a simple formula to create a instant championship program, and Tennessee winning is a birthright. And once a coach is hired, you all set a date on your cell phone calendar. And when it goes off, you have decided if a championship isn't won by then, it is time to fire the coach. You guys are why we are the most annoying fan base. And that is also part of the reason why those coaches you want will not come here. They never will take the job.
But a large part of that is the UT administration. Some of their actions (or lack thereof) over the years has made the fan base crazier than all the coaches put together could manage. Will getting the right AD help change that? We can only hope.
Our President is weak and has allowed our University to continue to float without direction or intent. We can't get easy thing right. AD hire is a lay up. You think about Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Ohio State, Mississippi State, LSU, they have strong leandership and operate with intent.
Our administration is an embarrassment to the state, and university. We are weak. We constantly invest in brick and mortar and refuse to invest in people. Makes me sick, it's why I no longer donate or financially support the university other than buying Vol gear.
